A Day With Dos Guapos and Sleazy El

"What is that smell?  It stinks like fish!"  I said to Dos Guapos as we sat in his car behind the horse stables at the beautiful Del Mar Fairgrounds.

"Bait my brotha!" he said with a coy smile on his face, "Mackerel to be exact."

"Geez, don't you know it is like 90 degrees outside, and here we are sitting in a hot car, full of dead fish, behind a horse stable.  The smell is atrocious.  What are you trying to do?"  I asked.

"Don't worry about it, " he said as he pointed to a horse jockey jogging up with paper bag under his arm.  The Jockey's eyes darted around as he approached the car to see if anyone was looking, "there is my guy right now."

The horse jockey came up to the window and handed Dos Guapos the bag, and Dos Guapos handed him an envelope and said "It's all there man.  Thanks again.  Oh, by the way" he said as he gestured with his other hand in my general direction, "This is my buddy Lavishly Handicapping."

"Hey, aren't you the one who accurately picked Monterrey and Baltimore to be the number 1 and 2 teams in your Postseason Power Rankings?" the jockey asked.

"Yes I am"  I replied with a smile on my face.

"Nice Job!" he said. "That is pretty good, picking the last two teams standing before the playoffs even started."

"Well hey, thanks for reading." I said as the jockey waved and scurried back into a stable.

"And what the hell is in the bag?"  I asked.

"You will see!"  said Dos Guapos as we pulled out of the stable area in his 70 something white Cadillac with gold trim.  "It will all make sense later."

As we drove north on the 5, I told Dos Guapos about how exciting the Baltimore at Missouri game was.  How the first half ended with an amazing Sosa goal that sent the Comet into the locker room riding a wave of momentum, but then Dantas killed the Comets momentum shortly into the 3rd with a quick goal.  I also told him about how the game was full of crazy goals, amazing plays, and a ton of emotion.  I also explained how Missouri went to the sixth attacker and scored two goals to come within a goal of the Blast before giving up a goal that ended their hopes of an amazing comeback.

"After that goal I turned off the game and walked down to the beach."

Dos Guapos looked at me with big eyes and a look of shock saying "so you didn't see the hard foul that received a red card?"

"Nope."

"Or all of the bickering in front of the ref box?"

"Nope."

"Or the head butt after the game?"

"Nope."

"Holy Smokes dude!"  he said as he guided his land yacht into Sleazy El's driveway, "I didn't even watch the game, but I heard all about that."  Sleazy El came stumbling out of his house with a cooler in his hand and jumped into the back of the Caddy.

"What are you guys talking about?" asked Sleazy.

"The Baltimore Missouri game."  answered Dos Guapos.

"The game that you correctly predicted despite some naysayers giving you guff?" Sleazy asked me.

I explained that he was thinking about the Friday game in Baltimore, and that we were talking about Sunday game in Missouri.  I also told him that "even though I accurately called the Blast winning on Friday, that I was wrong on the Las Vegas game. I thought the Legends would win at home and that the Flash would win at home, and the game would have gone into a mini game, but I was wrong about the mini game."

"Wow"  Sleazy said, "That is the first Las Vegas game you got wrong in a long time.  I mean, you picked them to beat San Diego at the Orleans, and you picked them to beat Sacramento, and then you picked them to beat the Fury in the first round of the playoffs, and then to beat San Diego at home.  You were on a roll."

"Yeah I know, I was surprised to see them lose at home to the Flash, but they did almost mount an epic comeback."  I said.  Just then we pulled into the Oceanside harbor.  Dos Guapos parked his white and gold land yacht, taking up two spaces like a jerk, and we walked out to the dock where all of the boats were moored.

"Whose boat is this?" I asked as we climbed into it and prepared to cast off.

"Mine," said Dos Guapos, " I won it in a card game from a degenerate, he wanted to give me his car, but I was all, I got one of those, what I don't got is a boat.  So here we are."

We cast off and went out a few miles into the ocean.  Sleazy passed out the beers, and Dos Guapos pulled out that paper bag that he had received earlier from the horse jockey and opened it up, reveling that it was a bag of pills

"What is that and what are you up to?" I asked.

"Horse tranquilizer, watch this." he said as he opened up the box with the Mackerel and took out a fish.  He open the mouth, put in a pill, poked it down its throat with his pinky, and then turned and threw the fish out into the water.

"Help me out." he said.  So we started grabbing fish, stuffing them with horse tranq, and tossing them out to see.  When we were done we cracked some more beers and sat back and talked about the upcoming games.

"What are the lines on the first game?" I asked.

"Baltimore minus one and a half, over under fourteen and a half."  he told me.  "What do you think about the game Lavishly?"  he asked.

"Well," I said, "Baltimore has the advantage in the first game because they are playing at home.  Even if Monterrey gets there early, nothing beats the familiarity of sleeping at home, playing on your home field, and not having to travel.  On the other hand, Monterrey travels well.  They have never lost on the road, and they have plenty of veteran experience that will help with the mental side of playing in such a big game.  Genoni Martinez is a salty player that will have the Flash defense ready for the Blast, and if Erik Tovar keeps up his play, he will have the attention of Pat Healy.  Tovar had a hat trick and an assist in his last game, which against a good defense like the Legends is no easy feat.  Baltimore is going to have to stop Tovar, and find a way around Genoni.  Baltimore, on the other hand, will need to get the ball to their three D's, Donatelli, Dantas, and Dos Santos.   Those three have had a strong post season and need to see a lot of the ball.  Vanzela and Healy are going to have to be on their game against the Flash because they move up and down the field quickly, and they can fire off shots from anywhere.  They key in this whole series is the mental side of things.  Both teams have their agitators and emotional players that can either throw or be thrown off of their game when tensions are high and emotions are running wild.  I think the game goes over, and the Blast cover.  But that is only in the first game.  I will have to see what happens in the first before I can take a guess the second game."

Just then Dos Guapos jumped to his feet with a whoop and pointed out into the water.  "Here we go baby, mira! mira!"

I looked out and in amazement I saw all sorts of fish floating up to the top of the water.  Yellowfin, Big Eye, Dorado, Bonito, Rockfish, all sorts of fish were floating up to the top of the water.

"Are they dead?"  I asked.

"Nope," replied Dos Guapos "just stoned out of their freakin' minds, they don't have a clue what is going on,"  he said as he laughed

We drove the boat around and picked out the biggest fish, and left the ones we didn't want.  Then we went back into the harbor, cleaned up our catch, drank the rest of the beer in the cooler to make room for the fish, and split before the game warden showed up.  The last thing we needed was a federal official asking about doped up fish lying around the water's surface, and why all of these pelicans who had eaten some of those fish and were now flying in erratic patterns, crashing into each other, and lying around on the beach letting children pet them.

Monterrey Flash +1.5 @ Las Vegas Legends -1.5 over/under 13.5
The Legends don't lose in their practice facility.  Legends cover and the game goes over.

Missouri Comets +0.5 @ Baltimore Blast -0.5 over/under 14.5
The Blast won't lose at home to a team that just played a game and traveled out to the East coast on a red eye.  Baltimore wins and the game stays under.

Central Division Championship

Milwaukee +2.5 @ Missouri -2.5 over/under 14.5
MKE Wave are in for a tough battle against a mentally tough Comets team.  Missouri is a great team in every aspect of the game, offense, defense, penalty kills, set pieces, powerplays, you name it, they do it well.  Missouri did have a tough battle against the Wave earlier in the season, and I expect the same tonight.  The only thing hurting the Comets is the fact that they have not played a game for a while.  MKE needs to take advantage of that rust and try and jump out to the lead early and make the Comets battle back from behind.  Much like the Baltimore vs Rochester game, I think that the second half in this game will be key.  This will be a lower scoring game, so I will go with the unders and I will give the Wave the 2.5 points, because I think that they will be able to step up to the challenge on the road and play a good game against the undefeated Missouri Comets.

Eastern Division Final

Fresh of the yacht that just returned from international waters, Dos Guapos is back in So Cal after participating in an illegal Kendoslavian knife fighting tournament.  While he was out to sea he met up with his bookie and was able to pass down some lines for this weekend's games, even those that popped up out of nowhere in rec centers, so have no fear all of you degenerates out there who are hooked on MASL action.  I will give you a break down on tonight's game, and release my picks for the rest of the games later.

Rochester Lancers +5.5 @ Baltimore Blast -5.5 over/under 20.5
Lancer fans are praying for a miracle, and they should be, they are going to need it.  According to my Baltimore insider, the people's champion and defender of all that is good in world of Baltimore sports Dave K., Rochester is 0-17 all time against the Blast.  If Rochester is going to have a chance at winning this game they are going to need to go blow for blow with the Blast.  If the Blast score, the Lancers need to answer right back with some points, because a come from behind win for the Lancers in Baltimore is unlikely.  The best thing that the Lancers could do is score two quick goals like they did last Thursday against the Silver Knights and get the momentum and control early in the game.  If they get behind early it will be difficult for the Lancers to climb back into the game given the Blast's powerful defense and ability to control the pace of the game.  Baltimore is going to be all over Salles, so other Lancers need to step up and have a big game and net some goals.  If Rochester could draw pressure off of Salles and give him opportunities late in the game that would be key.  This game goes over 20.5, but I think Baltimore covers the 5.5 in the second half after they get the rust out in the first.

INDOOR OUTHOUSE PLAYOFF SPIEL

REHASH

Chicago Mustangs 6  Milwaukee Wave 3
This was a great game to start the MASL postseason off with, and a big win for the Mustangs, who came into the game riding a 3 game losing streak.  One thing that Chicago added to the team for the playoffs, which they were missing during their three losses at the end of the regular season, was Guilherme Veiga.  The intangibles that he brings to the table adds a boost to the Mustangs bench, and that was evident in how the team kept their heads after the Wave took a one point lead into halftime.  The Mustangs came out of the locker room and dominated the second half, scoring 4 unanswered goals.  The third goal, which was a perfect touch and assist by Veiga to Bond, was the nail in the coffin.  Milwaukee played a good game, but it was the physicality and defensive pressure of the Mustangs in the second half that paid off.

Dallas Sidekicks 6  Oxford City F.C. 5
I was looking forward to watching this game on ESPN3, but it didn't work out, so I was forced to follow the box score.  I was actually out in the parking lot of the CBBA arena in Ontario drinking a beer and watching my son play soccer as I continually checked the score of the game.  When I first tuned into the game Dallas was trailing Oxford 2-1 at the half, and then shortly into the 3rd Oxford scored again making it 3-1.  When I saw this I immediately thought, "Dallas is going to lose 4 playoff games in a row, unbelievable!", but of course the Sidekicks won in the end.  Later, when the replay was available on Go Live Sports, I went through and watched the game, and I got to say, both teams played very well.  When Nestor Hernandez went down clutching his knee my heart sunk to my stomach.  He was writhing and screaming in so much pain that I thought that the season was over, but he was miraculously able to come back and score the game winning goal.  Oxford played a very physical, sometimes dirty, style of game, and sometimes it was even comical.  I saw twice where an Oxford player completely threw his body into a Dallas player with out even feigning playing the ball, an obvious foul to all who witnessed it, and after the whistle was blown, the player would look at the ref like he was an idiot and argue the call.  The better team moved on and I am glad that the Sidekicks were able to end their playoff drought.

Las Vegas Legends 6  Ontario Fury 5
I packed the family into the car and headed up to Ontario to watch this game, because we knew it would be a good game to watch, and it was.  Las Vegas came out early in the game and controlled possession and did a good job pressing the Fury, who were playing a defensive and cautious game to start.  Later in the game Ontario did more pressing on offense, but struggled to defend against the Legends attack in transition.  It was a wild game to watch with plenty of action, and in the fourth the Fury were able to score two goals to tie it up at 5 with 7 mins left, but it was a Gonzalez header off of a Tovar chip that put the game away for Las Vegas.  What killed the Fury was the fact that they kept on giving up goals immediately after scoring.  After scoring their first goal, Las Vegas was able to answer with their own goal 20 seconds later.  Then, when Ontario scored their second goal, Las Vegas was able to net another goal 32 seconds later.  When the Fury scored their third goal, the Legends put one in the back of the net 24 seconds later.  Finally, when the Fury scored their fifth goal to tie the game up, Las Vegas again scored 94 seconds later.  After the game I went on the field and caught up with Las Vegas coach Pete Sharkey, and he told me that the Legends were careful not to let the Fury score quick turn around goals in this game since it was something that they had done in the past.  So I went back and looked at old score sheets, and I found that when Ontario and Las Vegas played before, Ontario answered with goals 7, 61, 67, and 90 seconds after the Legends notched a goal.

LOOMING
Since Massey Ratings is not putting up odds for the playoff games, I was forced to go to Sleazy El to see if he could bird dog me a bookie for the MASL playoffs.  He suggested Hector Dos Guapos.  I said "you mean our go to guy in Tijuana for cockfighting?"  Sleazy El said, "that's the one, he just got out of the poky."  I have known Dos Guapos for a long time.  His first time in the slammer I did him some favors, mostly I smuggled him cigarettes in my keister, but he was out now, and hanging out with a felon after he is fresh out of prison can be a volatile situation, especially when he is drunk, and he was savagely drunk.  Dos Guapos had picked up a taste for toilet wine after he learned how to make it on the inside, and he was throwing that foul stuff back like a true wild man.  Luckily he knew that I was coming, and that he owed me a favor for going through the shame and embarrassment of being his mule for smokes back in the day, so he already had the lines written down for this up coming weekend of playoff soccer in the MASL.  After I enjoyed a jar of the finest toilet wine I have ever had in my life, listening to some harrowing stories about being locked up, and receiving a very long awkward hug, Sleazy El and I got the hell out of Tijuana and headed back home.  I am not looking forward to meeting up with Dos Guapos next week for the odds.

Syracuse Silver Knights -3.5 @ Rochester Lancers +3.5 over/under 25.5
Syracuse is my dark horse out of the East in this whole thing, but getting through the Lancers in Rochester will not be easy.  In fact, I am betting that Rochester pulls off the win at home.  I am excited for this game because these two teams know each other well, and I am sure there will be fireworks throughout the whole game.  Doug Miller will have his team fired up for this one, and Soccer Sam and his crew will be packing Lancer fans into the arena, making it a great indoor soccer playoff atmosphere.  Tommy Tanner will be bringing a well prepared Silver Knights team to do battle, and I expect the best play out of both teams.  If Joey Kapinos is in goal for the Lancers, and Rick Pflasterer is in the net for the Silver Knights, then I would expect a low scoring game, so I will go with the unders in this game.  Since I think that Rochester is going to win this game I will go with the points for Rochester.
Chicago Mustangs +1.5 @ Milwaukee Wave -1.5 over/under 11.5
After pulling off the win at home against the favored Milwaukee Wave, Chicago now travels into the Panther arena to try and win game two of the series and move on to take on the Missouri Comets.  Chicago did a good job of throwing MKE off of their game in the second half, but the Wave will be better prepared for what the Mustangs will try and do.  One of the keys to the game that Milwaukee needs to do is put pressure on the Mustang goal keeper Flores.  Missouri showed that when a lot of defensive pressure is applied Flores is prone to make either bad passes witch result in turnovers, or he will panic and commit a defensive clear, which results in a top of the box set piece.  MKE prides themselves in being one of the best teams with set pieces, that is one of the ways they scored on the Mustangs in the last game.  The Mustangs need to play to their strength, which is a fast paced style of game that capitalizes on forced turnovers and quick transition play.  I think that I will give the points to the Mustangs, if they lose it will not be by more than one point, and I will take the overs.  There were a lot of missed offensive opportunities in the last game that will be converted in this game.

Las Vegas Legends +0.5 @ San Diego -0.5 over/under 11.5
Las Vegas can beat the Sockers, and they will beat the Sockers in this game.  Las Vegas beat San Diego late in this season, and they beat us in the playoffs last year, and the Vegas team is better this year than they were last year.  In the Ontario game last Sunday, Las Vegas played so well as a team, and they played such a smart game that they kept the Fury from really ever taking control of the game.  San Diego will play a tough game though, don't get me wrong, but it won't be enough to crack one of the best defenses in the league.  Zeke Sanchez will be standing on his head, Tovar will be dishing out assists left and right, Ricardinho will be dancing with the ball, and the Legends talisman, Dominic Scicluna, will be directing traffic from the bench.  Two things that the Legends do very well is defend against the power play and halt the momentum late in a game.  The last time San Diego lost in Las Vegas they fouled often late in the game to keep the Sockers from getting any sort of rhythm going.  Las Vegas doesn't mind going a man down because they are so skilled at killing penalties.  The biggest reason, the deal breaker, the crux of my whole reasoning why I think that the Sockers will not win come Saturday night is the fact that my unlucky cooler of a brother in law will be in attendance.  He is cursed I tell you.  Last year when I brought him along to watch two games, the Sockers lost both of those games.  Las Vegas gets the +0.5 in this one, and the game stays under 11.5.  Maybe I should have Father Guido Sarducci perform an exorcism in the parking lot before hand.

Dallas Sidekicks +2.5 @ Monterrey Flash -2.5 over/under 9.5
This is a rivalry. This will be a battle.  Both teams have declared war.  I can't wait to watch lay my eyes on this game.  Dallas scraped by a very good Oxford City team, and now they must travel down to Monterrey to try and slay the giant that is the Flash in their own house.  That is no easy task.  Monterrey handled the Sidekicks with the greatest of ease earlier in the season, but that was not the same Dallas team.  This time Dallas will be firing on all cylinders when they show up to Arena Monterrey to brawl.  Genoni Martinez will have his team ready for the Sidekicks though, and the Monterrey defense will be a tough nut to crack.  I think that this game will also stay under 9.5, but I give the points to Dallas since I do not see them losing to the Flash by more than 2 points.  What ever happens down in Mexico, you know that this will be one of the great games between these two epic teams.

Rochester Lancers +4.5 @ Syracuse Silver Knights -4.5 over/under 21.5
Syracuse wins this one at home, and then goes on to win the mini game to move on to face Baltimore.  I don't think that the Silver Knights will cover the 4.5 points, but I do think that the game goes over 21.5 in a high scoring affair.  Rochester has a good team, but not good enough to win at home, and then go into Syracuse and win again.  Of all of the match ups in the first round of playoffs, this series has the most potential to be decided by a mini-game.  Rochester and Syracuse know each other well and I am very excited to see how this all plays out.  No matter which team wins the series, they will have to go through the Blast, which will be no stroll on the beach.

Lavishly's Picks MASL Week #19

Baltimore -13.5 @ Harrisburg +13.5 over/under 29.5  Baltimore already locked up the number one spot in the division, so they wont be sportsing as hard today, and will most likely have some players who usually don't sports as much sportsing a lot tonight.  Baltimore has the formula to win, but I don't know if they will apply that formula.  The key for Harrisburg is scoring more goals than Baltimore, and keeping Baltimore from scoring goals.  Harrsiburg will really have to sports hard to win, or at least come within 13.5 of the Blast, but I don't think they will sports hard enough.  Baltimore covers and the game goes over.

Detroit -2.5 @ Harrisburg +2.5 over/under 27.5  Sportsing two nights in a row will be a lot for the Heat, and against a Detroit team, which you know will be sportsing hard, will be a tall order for the young Heat.  Detroit will sports hard enough to cover the 2.5 in Harrisburg, but neither team will sports hard enough to cover the 27.5 points.

Baltimore -4.5 @ Rochester +4.5 over/under 18.5  Since this game has no real meaning, I will go out on a limb and say that Rochester will sports hard enough at home to pull within 4.5 of the visiting Blast.  Baltimore will be sportsing hard, but the fact that they will have sportsed two nights before will work out in the Lancers favor.  This will be a good game with a lot of back and fourth sportsing, and I think that they will both sports hard enough to cover the 18.5 points

Detroit +5.5 @ Syracuse -5.5 over/under 18.5  Detroit will have trouble trying to sports two days in a row, especially against a fresh team like the Silver Knights who will be ready to sports it up in anticipation of the up coming playoffs.  Don't get me wrong, Detroit will be sportsing hard during the first half, but in the second half they will struggle to sports hard due to fatigue in the legs.  The Silver Knights sports a great game and cover the points, and the game goes over.  Sports on MASL fans! Sports on!

INDOOR OUTHOUSE PLAYOFF POWER RANKINGS

1. Monterrey Flash  "Monterrey Flash at the top" you say.  Why yes, and here is why I think so.  The Flash have won the division with ease, and the two teams that the Flash might face to advance on to the final four from the Southern Division are teams that they have beat before, Dallas and Oxford.  They will also face which ever team advances at home, which gives them an advantage.  In the semifinals they will face a Pacific Division team, either San Diego, Las Vegas, or Ontario.  Monterrey has both beaten and lost to the Sockers and the Legends in the past, and played a close one against the Fury.  They have a very good chance to make it to the semis, but from there anything can happen.

2. Baltimore Blast  Baltimore has the number of both Syracuse and Rochester this season, and should be able to advance out of the division.  They will face the winner of the Central Division in the semifinals which could be either Chicago, Milwaukee, or Missouri, which will be no easy task for the Blast, but they have proven that they can beat the Mustangs and Wave at home.  The match up that everyone wants to see though is with the Comets, which I do hope happens, but who knows?

3. Missouri Comets  Missouri is carrying the baggage of being undefeated into the postseason, which isn't easy, plus they team that they will face is either the Wave, who have been battling injuries, or Chicago, who are on a losing streak at exactly the wrong time.  The fact that both the Mustangs and Wave are wounded animals that many have counted out makes them even more dangerous.  It will be a tough battle out of the Central and then a tough battle with most likely the Baltimore Blast.

4. San Diego Sockers  Getting out of the Pacific will be difficult for the Sockers.  If they face Las Vegas they will be playing a team that always steps it up against San Diego.  Las Vegas have beaten the Sockers in San Diego, they have beaten San Diego to move on to the semifinals, and they just got done beating the Sockers in the regular season. If Las Vegas makes it San Diego they will be riding a six game winning streak which gives them the momentum that makes them even more dangerous.  If San Diego faces Ontario it will also be dangerous, and here is my reasoning.  Ontario has never beaten San Diego, so eventually they have to win right?  If you are playing craps and rolling hot, hitting your numbers over and over again, feeling high and making money, things are great right, but eventually you will throw a seven, the fun will stop, and you will see that you have left a ton of money on the table that now belongs to the house.  Eventually the Sockers are going to roll a 7 with the Fury, but when.

5. Las Vegas Legends  They made it to the Finals last year, and they are hot right now.  They can and have gone into Ontario and won.  The thing that really seems to help the Legends is their new Talisman from Detroit, Dominic Scicluna.

6. Syracuse Silver Knights  The Silver Knights are my Dark Horse in this whole thing.  If they can get past the Lancers to face the Blast then they might be able to pull off the upset of the year and beat the Blast and move on to the semifinals.  I know from listening to Kick This that Syracuse want to get a shot at Baltimore and make it count.

7. MKE Wave  The Wave are quality.  Getting out of the division will be a challenge, but if they do they will be rolling with a head of steam making them tough to stop.  The think that hurts them is their keeper situation right now, but if they figure it out then watch out.

8. Oxford City F.C.  They have some good pieces on the roster, and if they can get hot they can do some damage.  Their fate depends upon whether or not Juan Gamboa starts standing on his head at the right time.  If Gamboa gets hot it will carry them far into the tournament.  They can beat Dallas, and they can hang with the Flash, but if they make it to the semifinals then I think it ends there.

9. Ontario Fury  They Fury are a damn good team, but they have yet to find their true success.  I am not sure if they can make it out of their first game with the Legends, but if they do they will be no push over for the Sockers.  Ontario has improved drastically from last year, and I don't think that this year is quite their time, but next year I expect the Fury to be not only a powerhouse in the division, but in the entire league.

10. Rochester Lancers  I feel the same way about the Lancers as Soccer Sam does on his Kick This radio broadcast, that the Lancers are just a few pieces away from being a true contender.  They have some great players and a talented team, but something just is missing that, when they find it, will make the whole difference.  Maybe it is the Mohican Warrior not playing a full season, not enough players are rocking the Hoxie mustache, or maybe the team is eating too much good Italian food from Salvatore's.  Who knows, but I hope they figure it out.

11. Dallas Sidekicks  I watched the Sidekicks' last game against Monterrey, and it wasn't pretty.  Dallas has had a number of struggles all season that have set them back, but to their credit they have fought hard and dealt with the blows as they have come.  It will be a difficult battle for them this post season, and the fact they they have yet to win a playoff game since joining the league doesn't help.  Maybe they are better suited for the under dog position.

12. Chicago Mustangs  The wheels came off at home against Syracuse, then they went careening off the road in Syracuse, finally they slammed into a wall in Baltimore.  It doesn't look good for the Mustangs.

Lavishly's Picks Saturday MASL Week #18

Harrisburg +17.5 @ Baltimore -17.5 over/under 29.5  What a terrible game.  I am guessing Baltimore will play their reserves so I will give Harrisburg the points and the game stays under.

Texas -0.5 @ Brownsville +0.5 over/under 14.5  Texas wins and the game goes over.

Tulsa +7.5 @ Wichita -7.5 over/under 17.5  Wichita covers at home and the game goes over.

Tacoma +5.5 @ St. Louis -5.5 over/under 15.5  St. Louis covers and the game goes over

Ontario +5.5 @ San Diego -5.5 over/under 13.5  I will give the points to Ontario and the game stays under.

Lavishly's Picks Friday MASL Week #18

St. Louis -3.5 @ Tulsa +3.5 over/under 14.5  Tulsa is bad, and the fact that they are playing at home isn't going to help them.  St. Louis is a good team with a great defense, and even though they lost to the Heat, I doubt they lay an egg on the road to another lesser team.  The Ambush cover the 3.5 on the road, the game goes over, and two players on the Ambush score a hat trick, probably Sinclair and Gurson if I had to guess who.

Chicago +7.5 @ Baltimore -7.5 over/under 13.5  The Mustangs just got ran up and down the field by the Silver Knights, and now they have to travel into Baltimore to face the Blast.  Things aren't looking so hot for Chicago right now, but a win on the road against a top team like Baltimore would give the Mustangs a huge amount of momentum going into the post season.  One of the Mustangs' strengths on the field is their speed and pace of play, but after the game they had last night, travel, and the speed in which Baltimore can operate, I think that the second half will be toughest for the visiting team.  Also, Baltimore has the defense and keeper  to put a stop to the Chicago offensive threats like Vaca, Wilo, and Hewerton.  Baltimore covers the spread and the game goes over.

Lavishly's Picks Thursday MASL Week #18

Harrisburg +9.5 @ Rochester -9.5 over/under 30.5  Last time I weighed in on this match-up I thought that Harrisburg could hang in and keep it close with the Lancers and I thought that the game would stay under 29 points or something like that.  I was wrong.  This time I will sing a different tune and say that the game will go over 30.5 and that at home Rochester will layeth the smackith down on a Thursday night at home by covering the 9.5 points.

Chicago +3.5 @ Syracuse -3.5 over/under 17.5  The Silver Knights are brewing something up in Syracuse that could take the Eastern Division by surprise.  If getting hot at the right moment is the key to winning in the postseason, then watch out, Syracuse is getting hot.  Chicago will try to come into Syracuse and pour some water on the Silver Knights in an attempt to cool them off, but things don't seem right in Chicago.  The Mustangs seem to be missing something as of late, but what it is I am not quite sure.  The Mustangs need to win at least one game out of the two they will be playing this weekend to keep from sliding into the postseason on a 3 game losing skid, and a win in Baltimore is unlikely.  We will see what happens tonight, but I will guess that Syracuse covers the 3.5 and the game goes over 17.5.

Lavishly's Picks Sunday MASL Week #17

Brownsville +7.5 @ Dallas -7.5 over/under 11.5  There is a good chance that Dallas runs it up on the Barracudas at home, so I will go with Dallas covering the spread, and the game going over.

Syracuse +0.5 @ Chicago -0.5 over/under 18.5  Both teams are playing their second in a row, so I will stick with the unders in this one.  The Mustangs are the better team in my opinion and should have no trouble beating the Silver Knights at home.

Oxford City +5.5 @ Monterrey -5.5 over/under 12.5  This is a look into a possible post season match-up and should be interesting.  Oxford will stay within 5.5 that I am sure of, but the over/under is a little tricky because both teams have good goalies.  I will go with the unders in this one, but I am not as sure about it.

Lavishly's Picks Saturday MASL Week #17

Harrisburg +8.5 @ Rochester -8.5 over/under 28.5  After watching the Mohican Warrior's Valentines Day monologue for this game I have a great deal more interest in this game.  I have been following what has been going on with Elliot Fauske through the Rochester broadcasts that he has done and by tuning into "Kick This" hosted by Soccer Sam.  I hope that Elliot sees a lot of time on the field and gets a goal.  If this was the only game of the week for the Lancers then I might consider picking them to cover the points, but since they just played a game yesterday in Baltimore I think that I will give the points to Harrisburg.  Just like Baltimore last week, and the Sockers this week, playing 2 games in a row has an effect on the second half of the second game.  Rochester still wins, but they don't cover, and 28.5 points is a lot of points, so I will go with the unders.

Chicago -0.5 @ Detroit +0.5  over/under 12.5  This is a tough one to call, Chicago is a great team, but Detroit is always a beast at home.  Chicago has had a lot of time off to get their house in order and address aspects of their play that needs to be improved.  Detroit is playing the last game in a 5 game home stand that has seen them only win 1 game.  Detroit will keep it close the whole game, and there will be a lot of defense in this game, I think.  I will go with Detroit with the win at home, and the game staying under.

Tulsa +14.5 @ Missouri -14.5 over/under 18.5  What a stinker of a game.  Missouri could beat the Revolution by 20 if they really wanted, but that would be extremely boring.  I think that the Comets will have mercy and compassion, pull back on the reins. play some back ups, and avoid running up the score.  Tulsa with the points and the game stays under.

Turlock -0.5 @ Sacramento +0.5 over/under 16.5  I had this game all wrong yesterday.  It seems like the Surge have thrown in the towel on the season and are letting some of the lesser players get some time on the field.  Turlock wins again and the game stays under.

Syracuse +3.5 @ Milwaukee -3.5 over/under 20.5  Don't sleep on the Silver Knights, they come to do battle.  Now is the time to strike with MKE plagued with the injures.  This could be the upset of the weekend.  I will give the points to the Silver Knights and go with the unders.

Lavishly's Picks Friday MASL Week #17

Sacramento +4.5 @ Turlock -4.5 over/under 17.5  After the fire sale that the Express had before the trade deadline, they're not the same team.  Sacramento nedds to bring a complete team of top players, that will be the difference maker.  If they're able to bring their full roster of Surge players there (how's that Craig?), then they have a good chance to win, let alone come within 4.5 goals of the Express.  So I will give the points to Sacramento and pick the game to stay under 17.5.

Oxford City -0.5 @ Saltillo +0.5 over/under 16.5  Saltillo is a better team at home, and Oxford is the most improved team in the league, we all know that, but I think that Saltillo has a good shot of pulling off a big win at home against the visiting F.C..  I will go out on a limb and say that Rancho Seco pulls it off, so I will give them the half point, and I will say the game is low scoring, so I will take the under.

Rochester +7.5 @ Baltimore -7.5 over/under 20.5  The Blast return home after a rough visit to the Pacific Division where they played two of the best teams in the division.  Baltimore is not going lose three in a row, so I don't think that the Lancers have a chance win.  The Lancers are going to play a good game and keep it close for a whole, but the Blast will pull beyond the 7.5 point mark at the end of the game.  I also think that the game will barely stay under the 20.5 mark.

San Diego +0.5 @ Las Vegas -0.5 over/under 11.5  San Diego has already clinched the division.  Las Vegas, who has pick up some important pieces in Tovar, whose presence has noticeably improved the team's passing, and Dominic Scicluna, whose enthusiasm has breathed new life into the bench.  I think that the Legends will be the better team tonight and pull off the win at home, and carry the momentum of tonight's win into Sacramento and into the post season.  Las Vegas covers and the game goes over.

Lavishly's Picks Thursday MASL Week #17

San Diego -1.5 @ Ontario +1.5 over/under 13.5  A win tonight guarantees a division championship and home field advantage for the San Diego Sockers.  A win for the Ontario Fury keeps their hopes alive for a chance to take the lead in the division and get the home field advantage in the post season.  Ontario makes me nervous, and I think that they have a good chance at winning the game tonight.  Guto and Topete have been playing great for the Fury since they came aboard, and as always Tiguinho and Nunez are outstanding players that are always a threat to score goals or points in the form of assists.  The Sockers are starting a difficult set of road games which starts in Ontario and ends in Las Vegas.  The biggest thing that the Sockers need to do in these two game, in my terrible opinion, is stay off the IR.  San Diego need to get through this trip without any more blows to their roster.  Ontario doesn't worry me, it's the Vegas game that scares me.  I have a terrible fear that a cheap shot will sideline an important piece to the team.  I hope that the Legends proves me wrong.  Ontario keeps it close in their last regular season home game, even holding the lead at times, and maybe even winning the game.  Ontario +1.5 over 13.5.

Lavishly's Picks Sunday Week #16

Missouri -4.5 @ Wichita +4.5 over/under 16.5  Normally I would say that this would be Missouri's game, no question, but this has been an out of the ordinary weekend, so I will go out on a limb and say that Wichita comes within 4.5 and the game stays under.  Could this be the day that Wichita beats the Comets and ends their undefeated streak?  That would be wild.

Turlock -1.5 @ Tacoma +1.5 over/under 15.5  I will give the Stars the points and take the unders.  Turlock has lost a lot of key players and I think they will struggle to beat the Stars.

Lavishly's Picks Saturday MASL Week #16

Milwaukee -2.5 @ Wichita +2.5 over/under 11.5  The Wave just beat down the Revolution at home with the greatest of ease, but now they must go and face a quality Wichita team that is looking to make their way into the playoffs.  Wichita is 4-3 at home so far this season, and Milwaukee is 5-4 on the road.  This one is tough to call because I think that the B-52's will play the Wave close, but I don't think that they will win.  I say Milwaukee barely covers and the game goes over.

Harrisburg +5.5 @ Detroit -5.5 over/under 25.5  It's never easy to win in Detroit, but these lines are all off and should be easy to call.  First of all, the game will not go over 25.5.  It seems that Massey Ratings is a little confused over MPS.  I will say Harrisburg comes within 6 goals of Detroit because the Heat seem to be getting better, but they just struggle to play a complete game most of the time and give up soft goals that kill them.

St.Louis -3.5 @ Tulsa +3.5 over/under 15.5  Tulsa is still terrible.  Ambush cover and the game stays under.

Dallas -1.5 @ Oxford +1.5 over/under 13.5  This game will be interesting.  Oxford has improved exponentially over the course of the season and this game looks to be a preview of the first round of playoffs in the Southern Division.  I will give the points to Oxford at home, and with both teams having quality goal keepers I will bank on the game staying under 13.5.  I have been keeping my eye on the Sidekicks.  If they can get a complete team together and get hot at the end of the season, then they might have a good chance to go deep in the postseason this year.

Monterrey -4.5 @ Brownsville +4.5 over/under 11.5  The Flash should be able to cover the points on the road, but this game goes over 11.5.

Sacramento +5.5 @ Ontario -5.5 over/under 17.5  The last time these two teams played each other Ontario barely escaped with a win, but that was in Sacramento.  In Ontario I think that the Fury can cover the points, but the score stays under 17.5.

Baltimore -7.5 @ San Diego +7.5 over/under 16.5  Things don't look so good for the Sockers despite the Legends handing the Blast their first loss of the season last night.  It seems unlikely that Baltimore will lose 2 games in a row, but given that they are on the road, they just played a game that went into overtime, and they still have to travel might take a toll on the Blast that could help SD.  The Sockers Legends will be in the house tonight to get honored and watch the game.  I am stoked about that.  I have some autographs that I want to try and get.  Does anyone remember last year when the old school Sockers came out to watch a game?  I do.  The Sockers clammed up, and Las Vegas jumped out to a 7-1 lead in no time.  San Diego was able to chip away at the lead in what turned out to be an exciting game in which the Sockers ultimately lost.  If the Sockers cough up points like that against Baltimore I can guarantee you that the Sockers don't climb back.  Baltimore is a well coached team that will be ready for the game tonight.  They just got slapped by Vegas.  Was that a wake up slap?  The classic "get a hold of yourself!" slap to the face in which the recipient says "Thanks, I needed that."  The big thing that scares me, or more accurately, the lack of the big thing, is the absence of  Nick Perera.  All offensive roads flow through Nick Perera, and with out him on the field I fear that our offense will be left wanting.  I will give the points to the Sockers in this one, because it is unlikely that we lose by 8 points, and I will stick with the unders because you know this is going to be a low scoring defensive game, at least for a while.  Don't get me wrong, I think that the Sockers have the recipe to win tonight at home, but it calls for 2 cups of "Sockers Magic!"

Lavisly's Picks Friday MASL Week #16

Missouri -5.5 @ St. Louis +5.5 over/under 16.5  The Ambush coughed up a win to the Harrisburg Heat, and then pulled off a win in Detroit in a very tight game.  It seems like St.Louis has not been clicking as of late, but I think they are due for a good showing at home against the undefeated Comets.  I am not saying that they are going to win the game, but I think that they have a good chance at keeping within 5.5 of Missouri at home, so I will give the Ambush the points.  Both Missouri and St.Louis have strong defenses, so I will go ahead and take the unders.  Hopefully I can make it home in time to catch this game on ESPN3 to start out my soccer weekend.

Milwaukee -8.5 @ Tulsa +8.5 over/under 13.5  I don't think that Tulsa has a chance to beat the visiting Wave, but last time that Tulsa played the Wave in Milwaukee they only lost by 6.  I will give the Revolution the points in this one and hope that they can hang with the better team.  13.5 seems like a small amount of points, so I will go with the unders.

Brownsville +2.5 @ Saltillo -2.5 over/under 15.5  Saltillo seems to be playing better soccer now than they did early in the season, where as is seemed like Brownsville played better at the beginning of the season, and have progressively gotten worse, but I think this is the Barracudas night.  No real reason.  This game is off of my radar.  Points go to Brownsville, game stays under.

Baltimore -9.5 @ Las Vegas +9.5 over/under 17.5  This is the game that has my interest, and I will be watching it closely.  Las Vegas has picked up some players at the trade deadline that I want to see on the field for the Legends.  I am also interested in seeing what the Legends game plan will be against the Blast.  Will they play a good game on defense, or will they foul hard and often to sacrifice a blue card or two in order to try and throw the Blast off their game.?  How will the Legends play on the offensive side of the ball.  Can they get it going and score some clean goals, or will it be a scrappy effort with some ugly goals.  Will the Legends announcers bring their A game in calling the play by play?  Will Dave K. jump on the field and streak across the Orleans Arena desperately avoiding security?   We will see what happens, but all I want is a good feed on-line, and a good clean game from both sides.  Vegas gets the points and the game stays under.

Lavishly's Picks Saturday Week #15

Rochester -4.5 @ Harrisburg +4.5 over/under 29.5  Fresh off of their first win of the season, the Harrisburg Heat now open their doors to host the Rochester Lancers.  Harrisburg looks to keep what they have going and win two in a row, but it won't be easy against a quality team like the Lancers.  I am still in shock over the Ambush loss and the fact that St. Louis has lost 4 out of 5 games after picking up Gordy Gurson.  I don't think Harrisburg wins 2 in a row, but if they did, it would be amazing.  Rochester just has too many weapons to not win this game, like Salles' booming left foot, Hoxie's mustache, and Los Dos Kapinos.  I think that the Lancers cover the spread and the game stays under 29.5.

Wichita +2.5 @ Chicago -2.5 over/under 12.5  Chicago played a very strong first half yesterday in Missouri in a very tight low scoring affair.  But in the second half the Mustangs were held scoreless as the Comets put another 5 on the board.  Wichita has been playing some very good soccer as of late and will definitely put up a good fight in Chicago, but I don't think Chicago will lose two in a row.  I know that "The People's Champion" Dave K. thinks differently about this, and if he is right it would make the chase for the playoffs in the Central Division a whole lot more interesting, but Chicago covers 2.5 and the game goes over, and that's the bottom line, because Lavishly said so.

St. Louis +1.5 @ Detroit -1.5 over/under 15.5  Oh St. Louis Ambush, not only did you just slow dance with the ugliest girl at the prom, you just made out with her, and as the principle flipped on the lights at the end of the night, that dark corner in which you thought no one would see you just became illuminated, revealing to the rest of the student body your humiliation.  St. Louis you just got caught swapping spit with the unsightly swamp donkey, but don't lament the past and what is now done, but instead feel satisfaction that you just made that homely girls night.  Remember, mud ducks need love too.  As you make that walk of shame up to the Melvindale Arena, just ignore the snickers and sophomoric jokes coming from the onlookers, those slack jawed yokes don't know the meaning of sacrifice like you do, especially when its your pride on the sacrificial alter.  Forget the past and look to the future, but if you can't, might I suggest a lobotomy.  This game will be a hard one win, the Ambush look to save face after sucking on the ugliest one, and Detroit looks to get in the win column after losing 7 straight.  I think Detroit wins the game, but by one goal, so I will give St. Louis the points and go with the overs.

Saltillo +6.5 @ Dallas -6.5 over/under 14.5  Every time I pick Dallas to blow out the competition they don't, so I will go against my initial impulse and give Saltillo the points, and I will go with the overs.  I am interested in seeing what the state of the Sidekicks is, and who is going to be on the field.

Monterrey -1.5 @ Oxford City +1.5 over/under 12.5  This game is very interesting, I would like to see how Oxford matches up to Monterrey at home, and maybe get a glimpse into a future playoff game.  I will say that the Flash cover the points, but I think it should be a good close game.  I will also go with the overs in this game.

Ontario -2.5 @ Sacramento +2.5 over/under 16.5  Ontario played a good game yesterday against the Express, and now they move on to the Surge.  I don't have much to say about this game, except that Ontario will cover the spread and this game stays under.

Seattle +8.5 @ San Diego -8.5 over/under 15.5  With the signing of Evan Mundine to the Sockers' squad, San Diego has a better chance of covering the spread than before.  Someone with the skills and ability like him is good for at least a goal.  San Diego covers the spread and the game goes over.

Lavishly's Picks Friday MASL Week #15

Chicago +5.5 @ Missouri -5.5 over/under 16.5  What a good game to start SuperBowl weekend out with, and this should be a good match up.  Chicago has had virtually 2 weeks off ever since facing the Wave up in Milwaukee.  This will be a tough game for the Mustangs as they embark on a difficult final six games of the season.  Everyone knows what the Comets bring to the table, and especially in front of a home crowd.  Chicago really needs to do a good job of possessing the ball when Missouri dials up the pressure and not give away dumb turnovers and soft goals.  I think that Chicago will stay withing 5.5 points of the Comets, but I think that the game will stay under 16.5 in a defensive game.

Ontario +0.5 @ Turlock -0.5 over/under 13.5  The Fury have been beefing up their lineup latley, and I am interested and seeing what the product looks like on the field.  The Express gave up their first home loss of the season to the Sockers, but I was impressed in the way that they played their 6th attacker for a majority of the game, I think that will pay off in a crunch. It is hard to go against the Express at home.  On a neutral field I would probably take the Fury, but I don't think the Express lose 2 in a row at home.  Turlock with the win and the game going over. UPDATE Since Tovar no longer plays for Turlock, Then I change my pick to Ontario winning.

St. Louis -6.5 @ Harrisburg +6.5 over/under 22.5  The Ambush's strength is their defense, and with the addition of Gordy Gurson to a quality offense is the deal breaker for me in this game, plus the fact that St.Louis is coming off of a tough OT loss at home.  St. Louis covers the spread, and the game goes over 22.5.

Tacoma +6.5 @ Las Vegas -6.5 over/under 16.5  Las Vegas plays a physical style of indoor soccer and in the close confines of that friggen cursed Las Vegas Sports Park they should be able to defensively put a halt to what ever Tacoma tries to do offensively.  On the other hand, a place like LVSP is the type of field that the Stars are used to playing in, so that could work to their favor.  I say that Tacoma keeps it close, so I will give them the points, and in the smaller field they will keep the scoring down, so I go with the unders.

Saltillo -0.5 @ Tulsa +0.5 over/under 17.5  I want this game to go well for the Revolution, I hate seeing team teeter totter like Tulsa has done in the past few weeks.  I hope Tulsa wins, but this game stays under.

THE INDOOR OUTHOUSE POWER INDEX

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who took time to read and comment on the last edition INDOOR OUTHOUSE POWER INDEX.  I would also like to welcome the Tacoma Stars back into the MASL.
In the INDOOR OUTHOUSE POWER INDEX I will, first of all, put the top ten teams in my STABLE.  Then I will put the rest of THE HERD out to pasture (in no particular order).  Finally, I will drop THE DEUCE, the two teams in the MASL that are stinking up THE OUTHOUSE.

THE STABLE

1. Missouri Comets  The Comets are still undefeated this season, and their last win, on the road against the Monterrey Flash. was an overtime win that highlighted the Comets' poise and discipline as they came back from being down a couple times against the Flash.  They have secured the Central Division Title, they have the best power play percentage, the best penalty kill percentage, the goalie with the most wins, two of the top five points leaders, the most road wins, and they have scored the most goals.

2. Baltimore Blast  The undefeated Blast picked up some big wins on the road against the Wave and the Waza Flo, and won at home against a good Rochester side.  One of the best traits about the Blast is their defense.  They one of the best goalies in the league in Vanzela, who has the best goals against average.  They have one of the best defenders in Pat Healey, who has the most blocked shots in the league.  Those two are a big reason why Baltimore has the least amount of goals scored against them in the league and also have a penalty kill better than 70%.

3. Milwaukee Wave  Milwaukee's only losses have come at the hands, or feet I should say, actually thinking back to their loss to Missouri, hands of Chicago, Baltimore, and Missouri.  They started out the season playing 7 of their 8 games on the road, which isn't easy, they play in the most difficult division, they have had one of the toughest schedules, but they are still sitting pretty and will most likely win their last 4 games to put them in second place in the division.

4. Monterrey Flash  The Flash just lost at home in OT to the Comets, but I still have them ranked highly, only because they have the 5th best power play, the 2nd best penalty kill, the second most goals scored in the league, a 7-0 road record, and on of the best goalies in the league Jose Bontti.  The only knock against them is that they have gained a lot of wins against mediocre teams like Saltillo,  Brownsville, and Hidalgo, 10 of their 14 to be exact.

5. Chicago Mustangs  Chicago has a very tough bunch of games to finish out the season and needs to pick up some wins if they want to make to the postseason.  Their next game on the road in Missouri will be especially tough, but important if they want to hold off the B-52's, who have been picking up wins and gaining ground in the division. They have a high powered offense with some very talented players and the 4th best power play in the MASL.  These next 6 games are going to be crucial for the Mustangs.

6. San Diego Sockers  After their unsuccessful journey into the Central Division the Sockers have won six straight, and will most likely win their seventh this Saturday.  They team has been sharpening their talons over these last few games and coming together as a team, learning each others habits and styles, and improving their ranks with the addition of Louis Piffer and Evan Mundine to the squad.  The last 4 games of the regular season will be important for the team as they look to the postseason.

7. Wichita B-52's  The B-52's have one five of their last six games under the leadership of great players like Matt Clare and Alex Moseley.  They have a penalty kill better than 70% and a fighting spirit that has lead them to some amazing finishes.  If they can keep up their winning ways they might be able to break into the number three spot in the division and make it to the postseason.

8. Oxford City FC  The team that was the laughing stock of the league picked up some outstanding players and now they have won four out of their last five and now hold a spot in the playoffs. I am interested in how they finish out the rest of there season in their games against Monterrey and Dallas to see how they are playing and how they will match up against the teams they will face in the playoffs.

9. Ontario Fury  The Fury scare the hell out of me as a Sockers fan.  Whether they were the Anaheim Bolts of the Ontario Fury, the Sockers have beat them 11 straight times, and we will play them 2 more times before the end of the season.  That is 13 straight losses before we could possibly face them again in the playoffs.  It just feels bad.  On the field they are a great team with a lot of play makers and a seasoned and crafty coach Bernie Lilavois who knows a thing or two about winning.  They too have a difficult end to the season, but that will only make them better going forward.

10. Dallas Sidekicks  It has been said that "The best ability is availability" and unfortunately for much of the season the Sidekicks bench has been fighting a battle against injury and other forces that have kept them from suiting up their ideal team.  They seem to be getting back some of their pieces and putting together  some wins here at the end of the season just in time for the playoffs.  It is possible that having such a unusually difficult regular season in terms of player health and availability, which has led to a number of losses is a sign of possible postseason success, given that when they cruise through the regular season they usually are immediately eliminated.  I am interested in what their roster looks like as the season comes to an end, and if they can pick up wins against Monterrey at home and Oxford City on the road.

THE HERD

St. Louis Ambush
Syracuse Silver Knights
Las Vegas Legends
Turlock Express
Rochester Lancers
Detroit Waza Flo
Brownsville Barracudas
Sacramento Surge
Tacoma Stars
Saltillo Rancho Seco

THE DEUCE

1. Tulsa Revolution  Forfeiting to Chicago probably saved Tulsa some unnecessary embarrassment.  I watched the Ambush rock them last weekend and it was tough to watch.  I could pile some more on the Revolution, but I am already kicking them while they are down and feel bad enough.

2. Harrisburg Heat  "Knock Knock"  "Who is there?"  "Owen"  "Owen who?"  "0 and 12"

Lavishly's Picks Sunday Week #14

Syracuse -0.5 @ Rochester +0.5 over/under 25.5  Rochester is coming off of a loss to Baltimore in which they played a decent game, but fell short to the powerhouse Blast.  The Lancers loss is nothing to hang their heads about, Rochester jumped out to an early lead off a Hoxie goal, Kapinos played a stellar game in goal, and the Lancer's defense did a good job of holding back the Blast attack.  Syracuse was actually behind for a while against the Heat, but were able to march back into the lead and win the game with ease with a lot of help from 4 Nelson Santana goals.  I think Rochester will pull off the win at home.  Salles, who was held to only 2 assists yesterday in Baltimore is due for a few goals today at home.  Hoxie, who had 2 goals yesterday, has been on a roll for the Lancers finding the back of the net often as of late.  I will go with the overs in this game since 25,5 points is only 12.75 goals.

Wichita +4.5 @ Milwaukee -4.5 over/under 10.5  Wichita will be crashing into Milwaukee riding a wave of momentum.  Do you see what I did there?  They have won 5 straight games and last night's game was an amazing come from behind win against rival St. Louis which saw the B-52's score 5 goals in the fourth to force overtime before a Moseley goal won the game.  Milwaukee is returning home after winning a tight game on the road in Detroit.  Detroit and Milwaukee were neck and neck through the whole game until the Wave crashed through the Waza defense in the 4th quarter and put the game away.  Did you see what I did there?  10.5 goals is not a lot, so I will go with the overs in this game, and I will go with the points for Wichita.  I don't think the B-52's win the game, but the Wave won't break over the 5 point mark.  Did you see that?  That's three.

Dallas -0.5 @ Brownsville +0.5 over/under 11.5  Dallas wins, overs.

Missouri -2.5 @ Monterrey +2.5 over/under 14.5  This will be an interesting game to watch just because of the two different styles of play that both teams employ.  Missouri is a more tactical team who likes to posses the ball and create opportunities, where as Monterrey likes to push the pace of the game and do a little running and gunning on transition and turnovers.  Missouri should be able to win the game, but the can they cover the 2.5?  I will give the benefit of the doubt to the Flash at home and give them the 2.5 points.

Las Vegas -3.5 @ Tacoma +3.5 over/under 15.5  I haven't seen enough of the Stars, but Vegas plays a physical game that throws their opponents off their game, and I bet they do that in this game.  Las Vegas needs to keep winning to secure their spot in the postseason, so I will pick them to win and cover the points, and the game will go over.

San Diego -4.5 @ Sacramento +4.5 over/under 15.5  Sockers cover, overs.

Lavishly's Picks Saturday Week #14

Rochester +11.5 @ Baltimore -11.5 over/under 22.5  The Lancers have been kind of up and down lately on the offensive side of the ball.  Guys like Hoxie and Salles have been the offensive mainstays as of late, scoring a lot of goals for Rochester, but at times the Lancers attack has been left wanting.  I am hoping that in Baltimore they can produce enough to keep the Lancers in the game and within 11.5 of the Blast, which is really 5 goals and some change, so I will go with the points for Rochester, and I will go with the under, I have a feeling that the Brothers Kapinos will play a strong defensive game and keep Baltimore out of the net.

Syracuse -8.5 @ Harrisburg +8.5 over/under 29.5  The Silver Knights cover against the winless Heat, and I don't think that Harrisburg can score enough to put the game over, so I will go with the unders.

Wichita +0.5 @ St. Louis -0.5 over/under 12.5  Even though the Ambush won the game last night, there were some times where they had scoring opportunities but couldn't finish, keeping the game from going over 14.5 and keeping me from getting my pick right.  The B-52's had the Ambush's number last time they met, but at home and after a warm up game against a bad Tulsa team gets them the win and enough goals for the game to go over.  Gordy Gurson seems to be fitting into the offensive side of the St. Louis game and is make their squad better as a whole.  I think Gurson can score 2 goals by himself in this game. Wichita has been improving with every game they play, and guys like Clare, Alverez, and Moseley will need to be kept in check if the Ambush are going to get the W.

Dallas -5.5 @ Brownsville +5.5 over/under 11.5  The Sidekicks seem to have the Barracudas number so far this season, so I will pick them to cover the 5.5 and I think Dallas could score 11 goals by themselves, so I will go with the overs.

Milwaukee -3.5 @ Detroit +3.5 over/under 12.5  I think Detroit is going to go into Milwaukee today prepared for the Wave and play a good game, they have yet to beat the Wave, and I don't think they will go down easily today.  If Detroit is going to pull off the upset they will need to keep LSO quiet, because he seems to be good for 2 goals every time they play each other, and for Detroit the key will be Miki Djerisilo.  If Miki can have a productive game and stay out of the box, the Waza Flo should be able to keep they game lose enough to where they are within striking distance of winning.  Detroit really needs someone to step up and play a lights out game on the offensive side of the ball and lead them to a victory, but MKE plays such a good defensive game, especially at home, that it will be a very tall order.  I expect Detroit to play a solid game and keep it within 3.5, and Both teams should be able to play enough good defense to keep the game under 12.5.  UPDATE!!!  I am a knucklehead, the whole time I was writeing this I thought that Detroit was on the road, but since they are playing at home I am going to keep my same pick Detroit +3.5 and the game staying under 12.5, but I will go ahead and say that I think the Waza Flo will pick up their first win against MKE and shock the MASL world with an upset win at home.

Chicago -6.5 @ Tulsa +6.5 over/under 14.5  The best thing that Tulsa did yesterday was change out their goalies, but against a faster team like the Mustangs with an explosive offense they will need a lot more.  They are playing on a neutral field, but that doesn't matter for the Revolution when you consider that the only average about 500 people a game. Chicago covers, but the game stays under.  But I guess this game will not be played, oh well, Tulsa needs some time alone to lick their wounds.

San Diego -4.5 @ Sacramento +4.5 over/under 15.5  San Diego pulled off the win last night, but Turlock was no easy task, despite the lopsided score, Turlock playing with a sixth attacker for as long as they did against a good team like the Sockers will pay off in the future. I was impressed with what they did, and it will only make them a better team.  The Surge are terrible.  San Diego covers and the game goes over.

Lavishly's Picks MASL Weekday #14

Tulsa +6.5 @ St. Louis -6.5 over/under 14.5  Tulsa seems to be getting worse as the season progresses, and they won't pick up a win in St. Louis.  The question is "can the Ambush win by 7 points?"  Tulsa has been losing their games lately by a lot of points, and the fact that they are playing in St. Louis makes me think that they can run the score up on the Revolution, so I will go with the Ambush covering and the score going over.

Missouri -9.5 @ Saltillo +9.5 over/under 20.5  No team has gone into Saltillo and hung more 7 or more points on Rancho Seco.  Monterrey didn't do it, Las Vegas didn't do it, and Dallas lost, so I will give the points to Saltillo.  Missouri probably isn't as invested in this game as much as they are in the upcoming Monterrey Flash game so I don't think that they will press as much and they should keep their scoring down so I will  go with the unders.

San Diego -1.5 @ Turlock +1.5 over/under 12.5  Turlock has not lost at home yet this season, and the Sockers don't exactly play their best ball at Turlock Indoor.  Tovar is no stranger to the Sockers and what they bring, and the Sockers usually bring out the best in the opposing teams, so I will give the points to the Express at home and go with the overs.

Lavishly's Picks MASL Week #13

Baltimore -5.5 @ Milwaukee +5.5 over/under 16.5  This is the last game in their six game home stand, and probably their hardest.  Milwaukee is no slouch, especially at home, and the games in Milwaukee tend to stay lower in scoring so I will take the unders. The Wave have played enough quality opponents so far that I think they should be able to keep it close with the Blast, maybe even pull off the win, so I will give them the points in this one.

St. Louis +7.5 @ Missouri -7.5 over/under 15.5  7.5 seems like a whole lot of points for a team that has never lost to the Comets by more than 3. The Ambush lost a tough one on the road in Wichita, and they will lose again in Missouri, but not by 7.5.  The Ambush are a good team so I will give them the points, and I think I will go with the overs in this one since Waltman is out and Missouri will probably let in a few more than usual.

Rochester +2.5 @ Syracuse -2.5 over/under 24.5  This has been a fun rivalry to watch, very exciting games and passionate players and fans make it even better.  Syracuse seems to be pulling away from Rochester, and at home I have to take the Silver Knights covering 2.5 points.  24.5 seems like a lot for an over/under, but when you think about it, 24.5 points is only 12.25 goals, or 8.16 three point shots. Over.

Sacramento +5.5 @ Las Vegas -5.5 over/under 15.5  Sacramento has improved as a team over the past 5 games or so, but not enough to go into Vegas and get the win.  Vegas still feels the sting of losing the lead in the last 5 minutes of play against the Turlock Express before ultimately losing the game in overtime.  The Legends won't lose two in a row.  Las Vegas beat the Surge in Sacramento once already by 6 points, so I will go with the Legends covering 5.5 at home but the game stays under.

San Diego -5.5 @ Tacoma +5.5 over/under 15.5  I am glad the Tacoma Stars are in the MASL, but they will have a blunt "how do you do" as they are thrown into a game against a top team more than half way through the regular season.  Sockers cover and the game goes over.

Baltimore -11.5 @ Detroit +11.5  over/under 21.5  It is never easy to go into the Melvindale Arena and face the Detroit Waza Flo, and if you have been following THE INDOOR OUTHOUSE you know the reasons why.  I will give Detroit the 11.5 and this game stays under 21.5

Turlock +1.5 @ Ontario -1.5 over/under 13.5  Ontario keeps improving their roster and their on the field play.  Both Turlock and Ontario are playing for the second place spot in the Pacific Division, so this game has playoff implications riding on it.  All the games played by San Diego, Las Vegas, Ontario, and Turlock for the rest of the the regular season have a lot riding on them, because one of these teams season will end prematurely.  The Pacific Division race is very exciting and I can't wait see how it pans out.  I think that Ontario covers at home, and the game goes over.

St. Louis +0.5 @ Wichita -0.5 over/under 10.5  I was sitting in my car in the parking lot outside the Sockers game last Saturday watching the St. Louis at Wichita game unfold on my phone.  I knew that I wasn't missing much in the Sockers vs Heat game, and that the B-52 game, which was tied up at 5 for the majority of the 4 quarter, was the exciting watch.  It delivered, Wichita won the game at the end of an tense and action packed 4th quarter.  Afterwards I went into the Sports Arena and the game was 5-0 halfway through the 1st quarter, so I knew I didn't miss much.  Beating a team twice is a hard thing to do, so I will pick the Ambush to win, and the game goes over 10.5.

Oxford City +3.5 @ Dallas -3.5 over/under 13.5  The laughingstock of the league over the years has all of a sudden secured a playoff spot and turned the tables on the Southern Division.  These lines are all wrong, Oxford is the better team, but I will take advantage.  I will give Oxford the points and go with the overs.

Harrisburg +10.5 @ Syracuse -10.5 over/under 27.5  In case some of you don't know, I predicted that the Harrisburg Heat wouldn't win a single game this season back in the beginning of November, and unlike some of the terrible predictions that I saw some people make, and you know who you are, this one seems to be panning out. Syracuse covers and the game goes over.

Las Vegas -0.5 @ Ontario +0.5 over/under 13.5  This is a tough one, these two teams always play each other rough, and the last time they played it was a foul filled hack fest where the refs pulled a total of 12 blue cards and 4 yellow cards.  Ontario gave the Legends 5 power play opportunities, while the Fury were on the power play a whopping 9 times.  Holy Cow!  I am definitely going to watch this rematch it only to see if anyone brings a prison shank on the field, maybe a sharpened tooth brush or a razor hidden in the mouth.  I think that Ontario wins this one and it goes over, but I think that the other over unders is where the action is at.  I need to come up with an over for the number of punches thrown, the number of flops, the number of blue, yellow, and red cards, the number of times that the coaches are on the field screaming, and the number of cheap shots by certain players.  If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Tulsa +8.5 @ Chicago -8.5 over/under 16.5  Tulsa Stinks.  Chicago covers, game game goes over.

Saltillo +2.5 @ Monterrey -2.5 over/under 11.5  Saltillo doesn't stink as bad as the Revolution, but the Flash still cover the the game goes over.

Lavishly's Picks MASL Week #12

Dallas -6.5 @ Saltillo +6.5 over/under 15.5  Dallas has struggled with getting a complete Kicks team on the field, and in their last game they struggled to get offensive opportunities, and when they had them they either were blocked by the skillful Juan Gamboa, or they missed their mark.  Saltillo hasn't won a game, and their first win wont come in this game, but 6.5 is a lot of points, so I will give them to Saltillo, and lets say the game stays under.

Seattle +2.5 @ Turlock -2,5 over/under 15.5  Seattle dropped two games at home to the visiting B-52's, and now they have to go into Turlock to try and get a win, but winning in Turlock will be a tough challenge because it never comes easy to visitors there.  Turlock wins, but I will give the points to Seattle and this game also stays under.

Harrisburg +5.5 @ Ontario -5.5 over/under 25.5  Harrisburg is bad. Ontario covers, but 25.5 is a lot of points so I will pick the unders.

Rochester +1.5 @ Syracuse -1.5 over/under 20.5  The last time Syracuse played Rochester they beat them by 4 goals.  Rochester couldn't get anything going offensively, especially in the second half where it looked like they were chasing and watching the ball a lot,  Syracuse covers, and the game goes over.

Syracuse +9.5 @ Baltimore -9.5 over/under 25.5  Baltimore should be able to hang 5 goals on the Silver Knights, especially since Syracuse will have played a game the night before.  This one goes over.

Chicago +2.5 @ Milwaukee -2.5 over/under 12.5  I don't think that the Wave will lose two games in a row at home, and I think they can cover at home.  This game goes over 12.5

Harrisburg +9.5 @ San Diego -9.5 over/under 24.5  Harrisburg is bad.  Sockers cover, but 24.5 is a lot of goals, so I will stick with the unders.  I think that the Sockers should score 1 goal, and then play defense the whole game.  Every time the Sockers steal the ball, dump it into the Harrisburg goalie, switch out a new crew from the bench, and D it up, over and over.  The final score would be 1-0, and the Sockers defense would be much improved

Detroit +1.5 @ Rochester -1.5 over/under 14.5  These two teams have played each other twice, close in Detroit, and not close in Rochester.  I think the Waza are due to keep it close and give the Lancer a run for their money and maybe even get the W.  This one is tough, but I will play it safe, Rochester at home covers, and the game goes over.

Tulsa +13.5 @ Missouri -13.5 over/under 19.5  I didn't watch the Chicago vs Tulsa game, but I saw the highlights, and Tulsa looked pathetic.  Chicago picked them apart and scored at will.  Credit to Tulsa for not forfeiting half way through game and sticking it out.  If Chicago can hang14 on the Revolution, so can the Comets.  I am go going to go with the unders, because I don't think Tulsa can score a single goal, especially on Waltman and the Comets' D.

Seattle +0.5 @ Sacramento -0.5 over/under 18.5  Even though both teams are riding losing streaks, Seattle is on a really long losing streak.  With every thing going on with Seattle, morale must be at an all time low, so I will go with the Surge, and stick with the unders.

St. Louis +0.5 @ Wichita -0.5 over/under 10.5  This looks like it will be a good came to watch.  Wichita just got done beating the Seattle Impact twice in a row, but winning at home against the Ambush will be too difficult for the B-52's to pull off.  Dispite the losing record, St. Louis is a very good team in a tough division and should win this game and put the game over.

Brownsville +4.5 @ Oxford City F.C. -4.5 over/under 12.5  These teams will play a double header to make up for a folding Hidalo La Fiera.  I don't have a clue about the second game, so I will guess wildly, just like I do on everything else.  Oxford is the most improved team in the league, and they should have no trouble winning both games.  Oxford covers in both games and the game goes over in both.

Dallas -0.5 @ Monterrey +0.5 over/under 11.5  This is one of the biggest rivalries in the MASL, and I will be watching this game live, but Dallas going into Monterrey and winning seems like to tall an order for the depleted Kicks side.  Monterrey wins, and the game goes over.

Las Vegas -1.5 @ Turlock +1.5 over/under 11.5  I will also be watching this game.  These two teams always put on a good show when they play each other.  Turlock keeps it close in this one, so I will give them the points, and the game goes over.

THE INDOOR OUTHOUSE POWER INDEX

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who read and commented on the last INDOOR OUTHOUSE POWER INDEX.  It has been such a long time since I did one I can't remember who all read and posted, but I thank you.  Remember, opinions are like buttholes, everyone has them and they all stink, especially mine here at THE OUTHOUSE, where they stink doubly so, hence the name of the blog.

THE STABLE

1. Missouri Comets  The Comets are still undefeated after 11 games, and the last few games have been difficult to win, with the Comets fighting off the visiting Sockers, going into overtime against the Wave in Milwaukee, and then pulling out the win against a tough St, Louis Ambush.  The Comets get the benefit of playing their next two games at home before going on a road trip to Mexico where they will play two game on the road, the second being against the 10-1 Monterrey Flash.  Missouri plays smart indoor soccer, they have guys with speed, they pass the ball well, and they play good defense.  They are an all around great team, and definitely #1.

2. Baltimore Blast  Close behind the Missouri Comets are the Baltimore Blast.  The Blast are also undefeated, but have played less games than the Comets, less road games, and they have a less difficult strength of schedule. That aside, I think that they are a top notch team and will be a top contender in the post season.  I didn't watch any of the last game against Harrisburg, but the Blast are getting really good of beating the pants off the Heat.

3. Milwaukee Wave  The MKE Wave have one of the hardest schedules in the league, and to be 7-5 up to this point is not too shabby.  They have two more difficult games left in their 6 game home stand against Chicago and Baltimore before on the road to play the always dangerous Waza Flo in Detroit.  The Wave's last loss to the Comets is nothing to be ashamed about, and their win against Rochester was dominate, with the Wave carrying a 7-1 lead into the 4th.  The Wave play in the toughest division and will be a handful for any team they face.

4. Chicago Mustangs  Five wins in a row have put the Mustangs into second place in the Central Division behind the Comets.  Their next game will put them in Milwaukee fighting the Wave for the 2nd place spot in the division.  They struggled offensively in their last game against Rochester, missing many opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net, while on the other side of the field Jesus Flores played an awe inspiring game in goal, carrying the Mustangs into overtime with some pure hustle saves.

5. St. Louis Ambush  They may be 3 and 6, but they play in the toughest division and have only lost to teams that were ranked higher than them, and they have beaten Chicago, Detroit, and San Diego.  They play good soccer under the direction of Daryl Doran, and have some really talented players on their roster.  They seem to be a team that is always in the game and never really getting blown out.

6. Monterrey Flash  When you look at the 11 wins that the Flash have racked up, 6 of them have come against Brownsville and Saltillo, who have a combined 2 wins,  and two of them came against a now defunct team.  What looked even worse was when the Las Vegas Legends, who had traveled down to Saltillo and played a game the night before, came into Arena Monterrey and beat a rested Flash team.  Now they host long time division rivals in an game that could have a lot of meaning in the fight for advantage in the postseason,

7. San Diego Sockers  The Sockers dropped 2 of their last 3, but are fighting to make up for it before playing a difficult final four games of their season.  San Diego has been playing better soccer as a team, but are still a long way off from playing at their full potential.

8. Dallas Sidekicks  The Kicks lost a bad game at home to an Oxford City F.C. team that has improved drastically since the begging of the season, but other than that, they have won 8 games with a team that has struggled to keep a complete and healthy squad on the field.  This next game in Monterrey will be important for the Sidekicks, who want to put themselves in the best position possible for the playoffs.

9. Las Vegas Legends  After starting the season out slowly, the Legends have quickly racked up 5 wins in a row, including a difficult win in Monterrey against the Flash, and a win in Ontario against the Fury.  Las Vegas is in the hunt in the Pacific Division, which has 4 teams battling it out for the top spot, and really needs to play their best soccer in Turlock next week, where they have yet to find a win this season.

10. Oxford City F.C.   The addition of Tayou, de Sousa, Gamboa, and Farias, have made a team with good players like Totti, Malloy, and Parente even better.  With their win last week against the Sidekicks, and with Dallas' trip down South of the Border coming up, Oxford City has the potential to wrestle the second place spot in the division out of the hands of the Kicks.

THE HERD
Syracuse Silver Knights
Wichita B-52's
Detroit Waza Flo
Tulsa Revolution
Brownsville Barracudas
Seattle Impact
Turlock Express
Rochester Lancers

Sacramento Surge
Ontario Fury
THE DEUCE

Harrisburg Heat and Saltillo Rancho Seco Ed Dravecky predicted it, and has seen it coming for a long time.  Both teams are a combined 0 and 16. (insert poop joke here)
