Final Score Chicago 5 Milwaukee 4
I was sick as a dog, but I still watched this game, and Chicago looked great. Under the leadership of the highly skilled Guilherme Veiga the Mustangs won a signature game against the seasoned Milwaukee Wave. First of all, Flores had a stellar game in goal, blocking 26 of the 30 shots on goal. Secondly, when the Mustangs decided to press on defense they did so effectively putting the Wave in uncomfortable situations and creating offensive opportunities. Third, in transition the Mustangs were too much for the MKE Wave to handle, and the offensive skill of players like Vaca and the rest was beyond excellent. Milwaukee was no slouch in this game, and it showed. They kept their head when they fell behind, they stuck to their game plan, and they chipped away at the lead to keep themselves in it to the end. Even though they lost, I was very impressed with the style of play displayed by the Wave.

I was good on the o/u. This was a good win for the Fury on the road. After a tough loss to Syracuse, Syracuse salvages their road trip with a win to take home to the CBB Arena. Rochester has gone to overtime twice this season where they are 1-1, but now they are hosting a very hungry Detroit Waza, a team that they have beaten once this season.

Milwaukee Wave @ Detroit Waza Flo Milwaukee -4 o/u 13
Final Score Milwaukee 4 Detroit 0
PUSH!!! Even though Detroit was held scoreless at home, this didn't seem like a terrible loss by the Waza Flo. Milwaukee is a great team who, like I predicted, struggled to keep balls off of the ceiling and out of the safety nets, but the Waza defense was strong enough to keep them in the game, even though their offense came up short.

Final Score St. Louis 8 Chicago 7
PUSH!!! A tough loss for the Mustangs at home, but beating the same team two times in a row is never easy. St.Louis needed this win to keep from going 0-3 to start the season. The thing that both of these teams have in common is that they now have to host the Milwaukee Wave. I am interested in seeing how both teams, who now have some games in the record books, handle such a good team like the Wave at their respective home arenas.

Final Score Las Vegas 9 San Diego 7
Las Vegas played better. San Diego had a good first half, but didn't finish they way they wanted to. The Legends played a very physical game and got their offense going, scoring more points in this game than any game they have played in so far this season. Dizzy Dollaz Cold Cash Money had a really sweet trick goal that will go down in his highlight reel. I am glad that Dizzy Dollaz Cold Cash Money rejoined the team this year, I have always been a big fan of Dizzy Dollaz Cold Cash Money, but he did promise to throw me a ball after he scored his next goal back in 2012, and I haven't forgot. Dizzy Dollaz Cold Cash Money if you are reading this, throw me a ball. I had no idea on this one so I went to the dice, and the dice did me right. I only wish that the dice would have done me right when I was playing craps with my brother at the beautiful Harrah's Cherokee Casino in North Carolina. Unfortunately, some flashy clown with a silly gold bracelet got a hold of the dice and rolled 2's, 3's, and 12's until I lost all of my chips. I blame myself for not reading the signs and pulling my chips down from the table and walking away with some cash instead of just breaking even.

At first I was like, "Whoa! 16 friggen goals!" then I was all "Silly MPS!" When I got home I checked the MASL website and saw that Detroit did 16 transactions on the same day. Detroit will not get shut out when the Blast go to Detroit in January.

Final Score Dallas 14 Brownsville 2
Pushed the over/under. Dallas really stuck it to Brownsville at the AEC, and they should win the rest of their games in November with ease. If you look at the Sidekicks schedule, the toughest team they play for the rest of 2014 is Hidalgo, and really through the whole regular season the toughest opponent is Monterrey. Sidekicks will make it into the postseason, barring the wheels falling completely off, but will they be in their best postseason form after another weak regular season?

I was way off on the over/under, but I was on the money with the spread. Two road losses for the Waza would have been a lot, so a win in Harrisburg was what Detroit needed. Waza are at .500 and now look ahead to hosting Milwaukee, who will be the toughest opponent they have hosted this season. Harrisburg is 2 losses into the 20 loss season that I predict for them, next loss will be in Baltimore, which could easily be the 2nd shut out in a row for the Blast at home.

I watched some of this game on my phone while I was eating dinner. I was diggin where the Surge were playing, especially the food trucks in the back. It reminded me of the good old days at Del Mar when the food was delicious and cheap, and the craft beers were $5. Now it is $5 for a crappy hot dog, and $12 for a watery beer.

Missouri is really making their case to be considered the #1 team in the league.

Once again I was sick for the home game. I was sick for the Las Vegas game also. So two home games in a row I have been sick, and two home games in a row I have been completely sober. That is a record. I have been to hundreds of professional sporting events in my lifetime, and at everyone I have had at least a beer to sip on while I was watching. These last to games have been weird, but I have been too sick to care. The next Sockers' game is Thursday night, and I have to wake up to go to work at 5;20 the next day, so it might be 3 sober games in a row. Now that I think about it, the Sockers haven't lost a home game when I have been sober, so maybe I will keep this sober thing going. Yeah, and maybe I am a Chinese jet pilot.

No real surprise here, Monterrey seems like the better team, and I figured they would win, but don't sleep on the Fury. I am not surprised that the Comets won, I picked them to win. I am surprised that it took so long to for the Mustangs to get in to the game. I figured that Chicago would struggle for the better part of the first half before fighting back into the game, but I didn't think they would struggle for the entire first half. I also thought Vaca would have been more of a presence on the field. I think losing their first game was actually good for the Mustangs, kind of like a slap in the face to bring someone back to reality and help them focus on the task at hand.

This was a really fun game to watch, except for all of the down time that happened. As someone much wiser than myself once said, "Don't count out the Waza. Ever!" Detroit battled the whole game like I have come to expect, and just fell short in overtime. Their was a lot of gum flappin about Dominic getting a red card, and I didn't pay attention to half of it, but I was surprised that the Rochester player, Megson I think, who put his hands on Dominic as he was leaving the field didn't get more than a yellow. And what was that Megson trying to do anyway? Dance? Salles had a good game for Rochester, and I got of chuckle out of his antics after scoring the game winning goal, I would have been ready to leave after waiting on the ref to get it together that long before OT.

I liked having a game on a Wednesday, it gave me something to watch on Wednesday night. This game seemed really fast paced. Gamboa looked good in goal like I thought he would, but the Flash were just too much for La Fiera to handle. Looking at Monterrey's schedule, they could go 9-0 to start out the season in a very strong Southern division, but they will first need to beat La Fiera again, but this time in Hidalgo.

I was able to watch this game on my phone as I sat in the VVCC waiting for the Sockers' game to start. Dallas looked better with one game in the books and playing a tough opponent in Wichita. I saw some of the usual antics from a new player to the Wichita squad, good luck with that, and some good aggressive play from both sides. I got the line pretty good in this one and the over/under was on the money.

Way off! Way off! I was wrong all over the board on this one, and my Sockers bias was obvious. It was obvious that Las Vegas had a game under their belt, and a good one at that. They played a good game all the way through and only ended up giving up the goal at the end on a set piece. San Diego, on the other hand, look unimpressive. They have some really good parts, but the whole is not there. They were lucky that the Legends weren't leading by more goals at the half, because there were some really close calls in which the Golden Socks got really lucky. San Diego really needs to take advantage of playing against Seattle next week before playing two very tough opponents in Ontario and Las Vegas afterwards. The Legends return home to host the Flash next week, who are the toughest opponents that Las Vegas will see so far in the season, and should be able to hold up to mighty Monterrey.
Sacramento Surge @ Turlock Express Turlock -4.5 o/u 12.5
Final Score Turlock 11 Sacramento 8 Therewere more goals in this game than I thought, but Turlock played a good game like I expected, except for allowing six goals in the 4th quarter. It is not uncommon to see something like that, especially when one team has such a big lead. It was a good home opener for the Express, and a good game for Pulido, who had a hat trick. From what I saw in the highlight reel, this game had some exciting moments.
Harrisburg Heat @ Detroit Waza Flo Detroit -2.5 o/u 14.5
Final Score Detroit 8 Harrisburg 4
A home opening win is exactly what the Waza needed this season. They have a tough schedule and can't afford to drop games that they should win, like home games against the Heat. Detroit was way out ahead early in this game, and did a good job of managing the game and keeping control of their lead for the duration. Detroit will host Rochester before going to Baltimore to face the Blast, and to Harrisburg to take on the Heat once again. These first 4 games for the Waza Flo are important for Detroit so they can start the season rolling and get some wins in the books.
Missouri Comets @ Dallas Sidekicks Missouri -1.5 over/under 14
Final Score Missouri 13 Dallas 4
I picked the winner in this game. I missed the spread by a mile, and was a little under on the over/under. To be honest, I really didn't research this game that well. If I would have know that Mbemba, Bellomy, and Nestor Hernandez would not be playing I would have probably given Dallas another point and a half. I actually watched this game, on my phone, while I was a Sea World with my family. From what I saw, the Comets are a really good team, and it seems like they are picking up where they left off last season. Dallas, on the other hand, have some catching up to do as a team, but I am not worried about the Sidekicks. They are in a tough division with good teams and should be clicking on the field with a few more games under their belt. And besides, it is only the first game of the season and some key players from last years squad are missing, no reason to panic or say outlandish things. Which reminds me. I heard some jibba jabba about how Dallas is a "Powerhouse" and their blowout loss was a sign of the disparity between the two leagues. A rash statement like this would shock most people, but me, not so much. You see, I know this guy, and to protect his identity, I will call him King Wampus the 3rd. King Wampus III was a person who said and did foolish things all of the time, For example, Once I went to dinner with King Wampus III at a very fine local steakhouse, and King Wampus III wanted to order a plain hamburger to eat. I explained to him that ordering ground beef at such a fine dining establishment was something a child would do, and to instead order the Filet Mignon. Next, when his Filet Mignon was served, I had to tell him to put the ketchup down, only children and knuckleheads put ketchup on such a fine piece of meat. Later, during our after dinner conversation, we talked about our favorite movies, and King Wampus III informed me that Godfather III was the best movie out of the whole Godfather trilogy. I again had to explain that Godfather III fell well below the mark of the first two Godfathers, and in no way should be considered an equal. Finally, when it was time to pay the bill and leave, King Wampus III tried to pay with both US dollars and Chuck E Cheese tokens. I had to explain that even though they are both forms of currency, the tokens were not the same as American money. King Wampus III was a fool.
So when someone says that the Dallas Sidekicks are a "Powerhouse" and that their blowout loss is proof that former MISL teams are better than all former PASL teams, I have to scratch my head. But I understand why someone would say something like that, I mean, it's not the stupidest thing I have ever heard. First of all, what qualifies as a "Powerhouse"? A team that was the 7th or 6th best team in the league last year, depending on who you ask. A team that never won the Ron Newman Cup, in fact a team that never one a single playoff game in the PASL. Is that a "Powerhouse"? Now don't get me wrong, Dallas has a great history, and I respect that, but they never found postseason success in the PASL. So don't call them a "Powerhouse". To proclaim that there is a disparity in the league after a single game, a game between the defending champs in one league, and maybe the 6th best team, a team missing many key players from last season, in the other, and on top of it all to proclaim that both teams are representative league "Powerhouses", well, sounds like something King Wampus III would say.

Turlock Express @ Las Vegas Legends Las Vegas -1 over/under 18
Final Score Las Vegas 7 Turlock 6
Final Score Las Vegas 7 Turlock 6
Smack talk!? Wow. A guess a little hyperbole isn't out of place in the media as we have seen. I appreciate all of the publicity I got for my predictions in this game, much to the chagrin of a few. I do this blog for fun in my spare time and enjoy the shout-outs and mentioning I get from all over the league. I love the game of indoor and what happened in this game is one of those things that makes doing this blog fun. Both teams looked and played like I expected, the Pacific division looks like it will be a lot of fun to follow this season.
Brownsville Barracudas @ Monterrey Flash Monterrey -9.5 over/under 17
Final Score Monterrey 15 Brownsville 6
First of all, I want to apologize to the Brownsville Barracudas. They are a better team than I expected, and will definitely win more than 4 games this season. The Barracudas have a lot of speed and skill and will only get better as the season rolls on. This was a fun game to watch, really fast paced, and a lot of long bomb shots that hit their mark. Even though I was on the money with the spread, Brownsville played a really good game against a quality Flash team, and the Southern division looks like it will once again be exciting to watch.

Cleveland Freeze @ Detroit Waza Flo Detroit -1.5 o/u 17 Final Score Cleveland 6 Detroit 5 I ended up watching this game twice and Cleveland looked good. They were able to hold off the inevitable Detroit comeback and keep the Waza Flo from scoring on the multiple shots and scoring opportunities that they had. Their were bursts of attack from the Waza that didn't find the back of the net and some brilliant passing by the Freeze that foiled the Waza defense. The only thing I want to know is what the whole episode of arguing that took place in the 4th quarter was about? I saw the Freeze keeper take a dive in the corner of the screen, and Dominic and Allen Eller arguing with the head referee, but the Go Live announcer was just playing captain obvious telling me what I was already seeing, people arguing. Maybe someone can fill me in on what was happening, because that was a considerable chunk of time where the game was stopped and momentum slowed. Good Luck to the Freeze who made it to the Final Four in their first year.
Postseason Week #1 Results
Cleveland Freeze @ Chicago Mustangs Chicago -4.5 o/u 18 Final Score Chicago 15 Cleveland 10 I think my problem with this line was that I was predicting the final score instead of setting a good line to gamble on. -5.5 would have been a better line, but oh well. Cleveland seems to be getting a little better every time they face Chicago, and this time they were able keep the game closer than previous matches with the Mustangs. Chicago moves on to the US Open Cup Finals where they will face either Las Vegas or Hidalgo. Cleveland plays their first ever playoff game against Cincinnati next weekend and should be the favorites to take that game, but don't count out the Saints in the playoffs.
Monterrey Flash @ Dallas Sidekicks Dallas -0.5 o/u 12.5 Final Score Monterrey 6 Dallas 4 I have read the write ups, seen some highlights, and heard a little bit of commentary, but I didn't actually see the game. I want Dallas fans who read my blog to answer this question, and give some reasons, about this game. Did Monterrey win this game, or did Dallas lose it? Please don't give me a "Oh the refs sucked!" or "The nets weren't regulation!", I just want to know what some of my Dallas readers think about the game. Sidekicks fans you tell me.
Mexico Toros @ San Diego Sockers San Diego -2.5 o/u 15 Final Score San Diego 7 Mexico 4 Like the Chicago vs Clevleand spread, this one should have been 3.5 and not 2.5. I could run through the numbers, talk ad nauseam about the game and all of the great plays, and breakdown every angle of the game, but I won't. All I will say is this. The Sockers are playing like they should in the postseason. The same way they have played good soccer in the past, they are doing now. I have no reason to doubt them.
Week #16 Results
Hidalgo La Fiera @ Saltillo Rancho Seco Hidalgo -3.5 o/u 14 Final Score Hidalgo 6 Saltillo 3 I nailed the spread on this game, but missed on the over/under. I hope to see Saltillo back in the mix next year, hopefully their PASL experience can help them out in the next LMFR season.
Bay Area Rosal @ Mexico Toros Mexico -4.5 o/u 20 Final Score Mexico 27 Bay Area 2 Mexico blew the doors off of Bay Area in Tijuana to show they they in fact deserve the last spot in the Pacific Division playoffs.
Ontario Fury @ Las Vegas Legends Las Vegas -3.5 o/u 17 Final Score Las Vegas 17 Ontario 8 Las Vegas hosted the Ontario fury in the last game of the regular season at the Las Vegas Sports Park. I have seen the field where the Legends will host the Divisional Championship. It has good turf, there are two goals, all of the lines on the field look to be in the right spot, there is a score board, the soccer balls there also bounce, it looks like a good place to play some indoor soccer.
Tulsa Revolution @ Texas Strikers Tulsa -4.5 o/u 18 Final Score Texas 11 Tulsa 3 Congratulations to the Texas Strikers for winning their first game of the season at home against the Tulsa Revolution. I honestly thought that Texas was going to go winless this season and be the laughing stock of the league, but a win at home in their last game salvages their season from a total disaster. I honestly hope that the Strikers can return next year and field a more competitive team, the Ford Arena where the Strikers play is really nice and it would be a shame to see it go without a PASL team.
Turlock Express @ Sacramento Surge Turlock -2.5 o/u 14 Final Score Sacramento 8 Turlock 5 Sacramento picks up their third win at home on the last game of the season. All three teams in the Nor Cal Triangle end up holding down the last three spots in Pacific Division.
Wichita B-52's @ Illinois Piasa Wichita -1.5 o/u 12 Final Score Wichita 6 Piasa 3 Piasa losses at home in their last game of the season to the Wichita B-52's. I hope that the Piasa can recover from their shake up in the middle of this season and return next year with a more competitive team.
Detroit Waza @ Cincinnati Saints Detroit -3.5 o/u 16 Final Score Detroit 8 Cincinnati 7 I watched this game on America One and the Saints looked strong against the Veteran Detroit Waza, but fell short in overtime.
Detroit Waza @ Cleveland Freeze Detroit -1.5 o/u 14 Final Score Detroit 8 Cleveland 7 This was probably my best lines of the weekend hitting both the spread and the over/under. Detroit led this game for the majority of regulation, and through all of the first half, 3-0 at one point and 5-1 at another. The Waza had the 2 point lead at the end of the game until Bartulovic scored in the final minutes of the game off of a Ostergren pass.
Harrisburg Heat @ Dallas Sidekicks Dallas -3.5 o/u 14 Final Score Dallas 13 Harrisburg 3 I also watched this game on America One. Dallas was too much for the Heat all night. The Sidekicks look ready to take on Monterrey in the playoffs.
Cincinnati Saints @ Chicago Mustangs Chicago -4.5 o/u 18 Final Score Chicago 23 Cincinnati 6 I also watched some of this game. A huge blow out and a hard one to watch.
Saltillo Rancho Seco @ Monterrey Flash Monterrey -3.5 o/u 15 Final Score Monterrey 10 Saltillo 2 I also watched what I could of this game. Monterrey looked good against Rancho Seco at home, but will have a hard time trying beat Dallas in the postseason.
Tulsa Revolution @ Hidalgo La Fiera Hidalgo -6.5 o/u 14 Final Score Hidalgo 23 Tulsa 2 I also watched some of this game, but Hidalgo was beating the Revolution so bad it was hard to bear watching. The last week of the PASL regular season sure had some stinkers.
Week #15 Results
Texas Strikers @ Hidalgo La Fiera Hidalgo -10.5 over/under 20 Final Score Hidalgo 26 Texas 3 Holy Smokes.....(Long Pause, Blank Stare).....well with that win Hidalgo moves from 7th best powerplay to the 4th best powerplay, and from 5th best penalty kill to 4th best. and from 130 goals to 156 goals on the season.
Wichita B-52's @ Tulsa Revolution Wichita -1 o/u 15 Final Score Tulsa 6 Wichita 4 Tulsa picks up a win at home against good Wichita team that took the Sidekicks into overtime later in the week. The Tulsa Revolution have certainly grown as a team since the begging of the season and this win is proof of that. It is also good for the team to win their last home game of the season before going on a two game road trip this weekend. Tulsa should be able to pick up another win against the Strikers in Beaumont before going into Hidalgo to take on La Fiera.
Mexico Toros @ Turlock Express Mexico -1.5 o/u 12 Final Score Turlock 9 Mexico 6 The Express win at home against Toros and finish off their last home game of the season on a high note. Turlock fell short of the expectations set last year with with a playoff berth, and this year they really didn't dominate the Nor Cal Triangle, but no one team really did.
Cincinnati Saints @ Cleveland Freeze Cleveland -4 o/u 18 Final Score Cleveland 17 Cincinnati 8 It was PASL night in my house on Saturday night, and this was the first game that we watched. Cleveland had the game in the bag early on and were putting on a show, led by Allen Eller who had 8 assists and Josh Grossman, who had 7 goals. Once the bleeding started, Cincinnati struggled to contain it. Cleveland looks ready to take on the Detroit Waza Flo at home in their last regular season game this weekend.
Saltillo Rancho Seco @ Texas Strikers Saltillo -4.5 o/u 17 Final Score Saltillo 8 Texas 5 After getting their doors blown off on Thursday, Texas was able put up a decent showing and only lose to Saltillo by 3. Texas will host Tulsa this weekend in their last regular season game and Saltillo will host La Fiera before going into Monterrey for their last game of the season.
Mexico Toros @ Sacramento Surge Mexico -6.5 o/u 16 Final Score Mexico 10 Sacramento 6 The Surge were able to go 2-3 on the man advantage and score some goals against a very decent Mexico Toros. Mexico, on the other hand, jumped out to a 6-1 lead at the half and the Surge were never able to close the gap. They will be a tough playoff team in the Pacific. Plus, I nailed the over/under.
Las Vegas Legends @ Ontario Fury Las Vegas -3.5 o/u 20 Final Score Las Vegas 10 Ontario 8 We watched this game also on Saturday night and I was impressed by the first half that Ontario had. They looked good and were clicking as a team, but in the second half Las Vegas came back, made the necessary adjustments and just plain played better than the Fury to go on for the win. Ontario has one more chance to try and beat the Legends in Las Vegas in what is the last game for the Fury this season.
Harrisburg Heat @ Illinois Piasa Harrisburg -5 o/u 14 Final Score Illinois Piasa 4 Harrisburg 3 We also watched some of this game on Saturday night. It wasn't the most exciting game of the night, but I think that this is a big win for the Piasa. Illinois needed a win to break their losing streak, right the ship, and give themselves reassurance that they are on the right track as a team, especially after the rough season that they just had.
Dallas Sidekicks @ Wichita B-52's Dallas -3 o/u 12.5 Final Score Dallas 5 Wichita 4 Dallas narrowly escaped with the win in Wichita, but the B-52's seem to have really improved with age this season and will definitely be a serious contender next season. Dallas has one last home game against the Heat next weekend before going into the playoffs, where they will have to get through Monterrey and Hidalgo if they want to get to Chicago for the Ron Newman Cup.
Ontario Fury @ San Diego Sockers San Diego 3.5 o/u 14 Final Score San Diego 10 Ontario 3 This was a fun game to watch as the Sockers were in control the whole time. I really didn't get to pay too much attention to the game as I was running around trying to find people that I know follow the Indoor Outhouse. Unfortunately, I didn't find all of the people that I wanted to so I will try again at the next home game.
Harrisburg Heat @ 14-0 Chicago Mustangs Mustangs -10 o/u 20 Final Score Chicago 14 Harrisburg 3 Out of all of the games that I handicapped this weekend, this one was probably my closest one in both the spread and the over/under. Chicago hosts the Saints next week before taking some time off to prepare to host the Ron Newman Cup.
Week #14 Results
Chicago Mustangs @ Tulsa Revolution Chicago -9.5 o/u 20 Final Score Chicago 16 Tulsa 9 I
missed the spread by 2.5 and the over/under by 5 on this game. At one
point in the 3rd Tulsa was only down 5 to 6 to the Mustangs, but Chicago
was able to pour on some scoring and the Revolution could not keep up.
Las Vegas Legends @ Dallas Sidekicks Las Vegas -.5 o/u 15 Final Score Dallas 8 Las Vegas 6
I missed the spread on this, but was close on the over under. I
watched this game on America One, and since the audio was the house PA, I
turned off the Volume and watched the game while listening to the
Jurassic 5 station on Pandora. It was a fun game to watch, very chippy,
floppy, and shovey, but still a good game. The camera would sometimes
go to the crowd when something was happening on the field, which would
kind of irk me, but I think I saw Edward Hamm twice, which was funny.
Dallas has a lot of stuff happening during their games during down times
on the field, which was fun to watch, and I especially like the part
where the crowd was throwing balls into the sunroof of the moving
vehicle. The game itself was exciting to watch, with tremendous effort
from both sides in a physical game with plenty of emotion. I saw that
Sesay was fouled hard at one point and was lying on the ground, but I
was disappointed that no one came up and threw water in his face, I
still chuckle every time I think about that happening in San Diego.
Speaking of which, does anyone remember that magic spray that we used to
see in soccer, where no matter what would happen to the player on the
field, the medic would run out and spray the magic spray on the injured
player, and he would be like new again? We need that in indoor soccer!
Water in the face and magic spray to the body, that would be awesome!
Anyway, Las Vegas came out blasting in this game, and the Sidekick
defense with Sagu in the goal did an excellent job thwarting the Legends
offense. The first 2 times Dallas scored Las Vegas was able to answer
right back with a goal, but then Dallas went on a 5 goal run that put
them ahead of the Legends 7-2. Vegas was able two score 4 unanswered
goals to come within 1 of the Sidekicks, but it was Nestor Hernandez who
put an end to the Legends come back hopes. This was a great game to
watch, and I am sure that the post season in the Central Division will
be awesome to watch as three excellent teams battle it out for a chance
at Chicago.
Turlock Express @ Ontario Fury Ontario -4.5 o/u 16 Final Score Ontario 11 Turlock 3
I was kinda close on the over/under. The Fury jumped out to lead with 7
straight unanswered goals in this game and cruised to an easy victory
in Northern California.
Mexico Toros @ San Diego Sockers San Diego -7.5 o/u 16 Final Score San Diego 6 Mexico 5 I
would like to apologize to the Toros for underestimating them in my
lines. When I walked to my seat, Austin and Mink were just looking at
my lines on the phone and Austin said something like, "Wow, 7.5 point
favorites, that is a lot" and I said, "seven and a half point
favorites? That is a lot. What the hell was I thinking?"
Then I sat in my seat and tried to remember what I was thinking. Was I drunk? It's possible. I like to drink. Did I get kicked in the head by a horse? But the last time I remember seeing horses was months ago at the horse track, that doesn't fit.
So I asked Austin, "What did I write before that on my Blog?"
"The Sockers know better than to sleep on any team from Tijuana, so they will be ready for the Toros." he said.
"Hmm" I said, "That makes sense, what did I say before that?"
"San Diego hosts their Southern neighbors in a game that will be attended by Baseballer Adrian Gonzalez. I will be trying to get a card signed and a picture of him with my son, but the game will be a fun one to watch." he said.
"Nope, I still don't know what I was thinking." I said, "But look, there's Adrian Gonzales." Sure enough there was Adrian sitting right next to us, so I sent my son over there to get a picture with him and to sign a baseball card. I was right about something though in my prediction, it was a good game, and the Toros played hard.

Sacramento Surge @ Bay Area Rosal Bay Area -4.5 o/u 14 Final Score Bay Area 16 Sacramento 8 At one point in the game Sacramento was within 3 point of Bay Area, but the Rosal won this one with ease.
Cleveland Freeze @ Detroit Waza Flo Detroit -.5 o/u 12.5 Final Score Detroit 13 Cleveland 7 I
watched the first half of this game on Go Live before having to leave
and watch the Sockers game at the VVCC. In the first half it seemed
like Cleveland was playing a good game against the Waza, but Decu, Grba,
and Djokic were to much for the Freeze to handle in the long run.
Eller had a good game for the Freeze with 4 goals, but the rest of the
Cleveland bench will need to step it up when these two teams face off in
the playoffs. Cleveland was held to 0-4 on the powerplay by Detroit
and gave up 2 goals on 3 Detroit powerplays. Cleveland will have to
learn from this game and prepare for a steamrolling Detroit Waza Flo
come playoff time.
Chicago Mustangs @ Wichita B-52's Chicago -4.5 o/u 16 Final Score Chicago 10 Wichita 5 Wichita
was in this game at the half, but 5 unanswered goals in the 3 quarter
by the Mustangs gave Chicago an Open Cup win and moves them into the
semi-finals.
Cincinnati Saints @ Illinois Piasa Cincinnati -2.5 o/u 14 Final Score Cincinnati 8 Illinois 3 The
Piasa had the lead at the half, and again in the 3rd quarter, but the
Saints went on a 6 goal run to win this game with the greatest of ease.
US Open Cup Final Four
2. Cleveland Freeze The Freeze have been here since beating Harrisburg.
3. Hidalgo La Fiera Hidalgo beat Austin F.C. to make it to the Semis.
4. Las Vegas Legends Las Vegas still has to go through Bay Area.
Week #13 Results
Chicago Mustangs @ Harrisburg Heat Chicago -6 over/under 16 Final Score Chicago 13 Harrisburg 7 PUSH! I nailed the spread on the first game of the weekend, hopefully I can keep this luck up all weekend.
Wichita B-52's @ Tulsa Revolution Wichita -1 o/u 10 Final Score Wichita 10 Tulsa 9 PUSH! Nailed the Spread again, I gotta start doing more half points.
Sacramento Surge @ Las Vegas Legends Las Vegas -8 o/u 12 Final Score Las Vegas 20 Sacramento 1 I could probably say something cliche about losing big in Vegas, but all I can say is BORING.
Cincinnati Saints @ Detroit Waza Flo Detroit -5 o/u 15 Final Score Detroit 6 Cincinnati 3 I watched this game, Detroit looked good at home and ready for the playoffs. The Waza, who are second in the league on the man advantage, converted their only powerplay opportunity in a night that only saw 6 combined penalty minutes. Cincinnati, who were eliminated from the playoffs, still looked good on the field and hung with a quality veteran Detroit side. Detroit hosts division rival Cleveland Freeze this weekend in a game that will be a taste of things to come in the East.
Texas Strikers @ Dallas Sidekicks Dallas -11 o/u 15 Final Score Dallas 15 Texas 3 I nailed this spread also and got pretty close on the over under. Dallas toyed with the Strikers like a cat plays with a toy ball of yarn for the first 3 quarters, but then went for the kill scoring 9 unanswered points in the 4th.
Chicago Mustangs @ Harrisburg Heat Chicago -2 o/u 14 Final Score Chicago 12 Harrisburg 5 Harrisburg played a good 1st half, but fell to the #1 Mustangs in the second half 6-1. This was the last game that indoor soccer legend Richard Chinapoo coached for the Heat in Harrisburg.
Turlock Express @ Bay Area Rosal Bay Area -2 o/u 12 Final Score Bay Area 8 Turlock 7 I got close on these lines. One thing that you can say about the Nor Cal Triangle is that they have some close games that are entertaining to watch.
San Diego Sockers @ Saltillo Rancho Seco San Diego -3 o/u 15 Final Score San Diego 12 Saltillo 4 I watched this one on the internet, I wish I would have known I could watch Saltillo games online because I would have been watching more Rancho Seco games than I have. The Sockers looked good, stayed healthy, and walked away with a win.
Sacramento Surge @ Mexico Toros Mexico -4 o/u 16 Final Score Mexico 20 Sacramento 6 I wasn't even close on these lines.
San Diego Sockers @ Monterrey Flash Monterrey -2 o/u 14 Final Score San Diego 8 Monterrey 6 Nailed the over under. I watched the first 3 quarters of this game, but I couldn't deal with the problems with the internet feed, so I switched over to the Royal Rumble and didn't see the last quarter. Even thought it is cool to see the New Age Outlaws as the tag team champions, I was bummed to see the Heels winning all of the matches, and the Rumble itself was kind of lame because no good throwbacks made an appearance, and I am not a fan of Batisa, I am a Paul Heyman guy. In the first 3 quarters of the game that I could watch, both the Sockers and Monterrey looked good, but it was the Sockers that made the adjustments and got the upper hand.
Saltillo Rancho Seco @ Hidalgo La Fiera Hidalgo -10 o/u 16 Final Score Hidalgo 15 Saltillo 3 I got close on the spread and relatively close on the over/under. Hidalgo is now looking to secure the top spot in the Central division and get home field advantage in the playoffs.
RON NEWMAN CUP FINAL FOUR
- Chicago Mustangs
- Detroit Waza Flo
- San Diego Sockers
- Monterrey Flash
Week #12 Results
Las Vegas Legends @ Turlock Express Las Vegas -4.5 over/under 15 Final Score Legends 10 Express 5 Nailed the spread and the over/under in the first game of the week.
Cleveland Freeze @ Chicago Mustangs Chicago -3 o/u 17 Final Score Mustangs 20 Freeze 11 I stopped following this game when it was 13-2 at the half. Holy Smoke.
Dallas Sidekicks @ Tulsa Revolution Dallas -4 o/u 14 Final Score Sidekicks 13 Revolution 2 At least I picked the winner.
Illinois Piasa @ Wichita B-52's Wichita -4 o/u 12 Final Score B-52's 11 Piasa 5 I got pretty close on this one.
Bay Area Rosal @ San Diego Sockers San Diego -4 o/u 18 Final Score Sockers 13 Rosal 1 After watching this game, my friend turned to me and said "That should have been 20-0" because their was at least 7 balls that beat the keeper and banged off of the post, and the one goal scored on the Sockers was a deflection off of Farber.
Cincinnati Saints @ Harrisburg Heat Cincinnati -1 o/u 12 Final Score Heat 10 Saints 5 I missed this one.
Monterrey Flash @ Hidalgo La Fiera Hidalgo -1 o/u 13 Final Score La Fiera 7 Flash 1 La Fiera handles the Flash in the Rio Grand Valley, and the week before the Flash handled La Fiera in Monterrey.
Texas Strikers @ Saltillo Rancho Seco Saltillo -6 o/u 14 Final Score Rancho Seco 11 Strikers 3 I picked the winner and nailed the over/under.
Bay Area Rosal @ Mexico Toros Mexico -2 o/u 14 Final Score Toros 17 Rosal 7 I picked the winner, but the Toros are too good of a team at home.
San Diego Sockers @ Ontario Fury San Diego -2 o/u 18 Final Score Sockers 6 Ontario 5 This was the best I have seen the Fury play against the Sockers all season. I don't think that Ontario can make it into the postseason this year, but hopefully next year they can find the pieces to field a competitive team in every game. Ontario and the CBB Arena have a ton of potential to be a great team in the league with a huge fan base. For those of you not from the area, all you need to know is "Inland Empire."
Texas Strikers @ Monterrey Flash Monterrey -10 o/u 14 Final Score Flash 15 Strikers 5 I nailed the first game of the weekend and the last game of the weekend.
Week #11 Results
Tulsa @ Wichita Wichita -2 o/u 14 Final Score Wichita 4 Tulsa 2 Nailed the Spread.
Ontario @ Turlock Ontario -1 o/u 14 Final Score Turlock 6 Ontario 5 That is a huge win for the Express at home.
Turlock @ Sacramento Sacramento -1 o/u 11 Final Score Turlock 11 Sacramento 7 Two big wins for the Turlock Express puts them back on the right track and moves them 1.5 games out of that magic # 3 spot in the Pacific.
Las Vegas @ San Diego San Diego -2.5 o/u 15 Final Score Las Vegas 12 San Diego 9 The Legends came out of the gate firing on all pistons and put the Sockers down big early. Las Vegas is such a powerful team on offense that if you sleep on them they will shoot your lights out. I was very impressed.
Detroit @ Cleveland Cleveland -1 o/u 17 Final Score Cleveland 14 Detroit 11 This was a statement win for the Freeze, and if they can get the win next week against the Mustangs, then Cleveland will be the hottest team in the East. Eller and Ostergren are having huge seasons statistically, but can they lead their team to victory against a Chicago side that shut them down last time these to teams faced each other?
Dallas @ Texas Dallas -6 o/u 12 Final Score Dallas 15 Texas 1 Dallas beat the pants off of the Strikers in Beaumont.
Harrisburg @ Cincinnati Cincinnati -1 o/u 15 Final Score Cincinnati 9 Harrisburg 8 I nailed the Spread on this game and came close on the over/under.
Chicago @ Illinois Chicago -7 o/u 13 Final Score Chicago 13 Illinois 1 I got really close on the over/under.
Ontario @ Bay Area Bay Area -1 o/u 12 Final Score Ontario 10 Bay Area 9 Bay Area and Mexico are tied for 3rd in the Pacific and every win from here out is crucial if they want to see the postseason.
Hidalgo @ Saltillo Hidalgo -1 o/u 17 Final Score Hidalgo 9 Saltillo 1 I am having trouble gauging Saltillo. They have a tough schedule and lose to a lot of good teams, so I can't tell how good they really are.
Las Vegas @ Mexico Las Vegas -0.5 o/u 14 Final Score Mexico 10 Las Vegas 7 Big win for Mexico keeps them alive for a shot at the postseason.
Harrisburg @ Detroit Detroit -2 o/u 12 Final Score Detroit 12 Harrisburg 6 Detroit seems to have kicked the monkey that is the Heat off of there back.
Hidalgo @ Monterrey Monterrey -1 o/u 11 Final Score Monterrey 11 Hidalgo 6 Monterrey handles Hidalgo at home, but the Flash travel to the home of La Fiera next week for a rematch.
Week #10 Results
Wichita B-52's @ Dallas Sidekicks Dallas -2 over/under 16 Final Score Dallas 6 Wichita 3 I got close on the spread, but missed the over/under. Wichita is a much improved side since the beginning of the season and I think that they might have a legitimate shot at an upset when these two sides face off again on Saturday at the Hartman Arena.
Mexico Toros @ Ontario Fury Ontario -2 o/u 18 Final Score Ontario 12 Mexico 5 I picked the winner and got the over/under right, but the Fury ended up beating the Toros by 7. This was a much needed win by a team that was on a bad losing streak.
Turlock Express @ Las Vegas Legends Las Vegas -7.5 o/u 16 Final Score Las Vegas 8 Turlock 5 Turlock found a way to blunt the Legends sharp offense, keep the game under 16 points, and hold the Las Vegas win to only three points. If Israel Sesay can find his place in the Legend rotation, Las Vegas will be an even better offensive powerhouse.
Bay Area Rosal @ Sacramento Surge Bay Area -2 o/u 12 Final Score Sacramento 11 Bay Area 8 Congratulation to the Sacramento Surge who won their 2nd game of the season, and have now won twice as many games as they did last year. The Nor Cal Triangle is more interesting than I though with no one team dominating. I got the spread right on this one, but the game ended up having 7 more goals than I thought.
Dallas Sidekicks @ Wichita B-52's Dallas -1.5 o/u 15 Final Score Dallas 6 Wichita 0 I thought that this would be the best chance for the B-52's to pick up a big win against a top 5 team, but the Sidekicks slammed the door hard on that one. But in my defense, Matt Clare did not have a big game, and Wichita did not convert 50% of their powerplays.
Illinois Piasa @ Cleveland Freeze Cleveland -5 o/u 13 Final Score Cleveland 27 Illinois 6 HA HA HA. I missed the spread by 16 and the over/under by 20, but at least I picked the winner.
Hidalgo La Fiera @ Texas Strikers Hidalgo -7 o/u 15 Final Score Hidalgo 15 Texas 4 Hidalgo definitely cover the spread, and cruised to another victory before going on the road next week to face Saltillo and Monterrey.
Detroit Waza Flo @ Cincinnati Saints Detroit -1.5 o/u 17 Final Score Detroit 6 Cincinnati 4 I nailed the spread, but missed the over/under in this low scoring affair. That is two consecutive wins that the Waza are taking into their game in Cleveland next week before starting a 4 game home stand.
Monterrey Flash @ Saltillo Rancho Seco Monterrey -2 o/u 14 Final Score Monterrey 8 Saltillo 3 Saltillo has yet to come within 3 goals of the Flash in their 3 games against Monterrey.
San Diego Sockers @ Toros Mexico San Diego -2 o/u 14 Final Score San Diego 12 Mexico 7 Mexico has lost two in a row, and now they must host the Legends next week. The Toros are still in the hunt for that third spot in the Pacific Division. Sockers lost a key player in McNeley to an injury, but Farber had a huge game and seems to be finding his stride on the pitch.
Illinois Piasa @ Detroit Waza Flo Detroit -4 o/u 12 Final Score DNP Illinois lucked out on this one, but I am all about safety.
Cincinnati Saints @ Chicago Mustangs Chicago -5.5 o/u 15 Final Score DNP Safety is key.

Week #8 Results
Cleveland Freeze @ Illinois Piasa Cleveland -2.5 over/under 11 Final Score Freeze 7 Piasa 5 HO HO HO I nailed the first game of the week. It seemed as if Piasa played two games, the first half and the second half of this game. The first half Piasa played a good game and had the lead at the half, the second half Piasa was terrible. Cleveland won the the second half 6-2. At the end of the game the Piasa coach, who suited up for the night, was whipped into a frenzy after disagreeing with the calls of one of the officials. If he would have got his hands on the ref before he could have escaped the field, it would have been lights out for the ref.
Texas Strikers @ Saltillo Rancho Seco Saltillo -3 o/u 15 Final Score Rancho Seco 10 Strikers 3 I came close on the o/u, but Saltillo is just too good a team at home.
Ontario Fury @ Monterrey Flash Monterrey -1.5 o/u 14 Final Score Flash 13 Fury 6 When I tuned into this game and saw Bernie suited up to play I knew the situation was bad. When the camera kept panning to reveal the rest of the team that was suited up, I instantly realized that my lines would be wrong. A quality keeper with indoor experience who wouldn't have coughed up up the ball so much would have probably kept the flash score to 9.
Dallas Sidekicks @ Tulsa Revolution Dallas -3.5 o/u 14 Final Score Dallas 8 Tulsa 6 I nailed the o/u, but Dallas kept it closer than I though, considering that the Revolution are a team that haven't won a game yet. One of these games Dallas is going to lose to a bad team if they aren't more careful.
Detroit Waza Flo @ Harrisburg Heat Detroit -2 o/u 16 Final Score Heat 9 Waza 8 This game doubled as a US Open Cup qualifier, which means that last years Open Cup champion has been knocked out of the tournament in the round of 16. This is the second time this season that the Waza Flo have fallen to the Heat.
Bay Area Rosal @ Las Vegas Legends Vegas -3.5 o/u 16 Final Score Legends 13 Rosal 3 Vegas put the boots to the Rosal at home in a scoring party the likes of which only high powered offenses like the Legends have seen this year. Did it mention that I nailed the over/under?
Texas Strikers @ Monterrey Flash Monterrey -5.5 o/u 17 Final Score Flash 12 Strikers 1 It's too bad the Flash allowed a goal, a shut out would have been cool to see.
Turlock Express @ San Diego Sockers Sockers -6 o/u 16 Final Score Sockers 9 Express 6 I have to say that the Express, who were not fielding all of their best players, put up a good fight at the VVCC. Turlock came out and scored first and battled the Sockers for a full 60 mins. But the biggest highlight of the night was the 3 vs 5 penalty kill that the Sockers pulled off.
Illinois Piasa @ Cincinnati Saints Cincinnati -1.5 o/u 15 Final Score Saints 11 Piasa 2 Saints pick up a win against the low hanging fruit of the East. I got close on the over/under.
Ontario Fury @ Saltillo Rancho Seco Ontario -1 o/u 12 Final Score Saltillo 16 Ontario 8 I should have changed these lines after seeing the squad that the Fury took into Monterrey, but I didn't.
Turlock Express @ Mexico Toros Mexico -3 o/u 15 Final Score Mexico 16 Turlock 8 Mexico really scored a lot of goals against a worn out Express. I picked the winner in this game, but the improving Toros are now 2.5 games back in the Pacific division at third place.
Harrisburg Heat @ Cleveland Freeze Cleveland -2.5 o/u 14.5 Final Score Freeze 12 Heat 4 Cleveland really stuck it to the heat to earn their second win of the weekend which put them 2 games ahead of the Waza in the Eastern division. I did nail the over/under by the way.
Week #7 Results
San Diego Sockers @ Ontario Fury Ontario -1 over/under 15 Final Score Sockers 8 Ontario 6 Once again I packed the family into the car and made the drive up to Citizens Business Bank Arena to see the Fury host the Sockers. We arrived early enough to eat some In 'n Out and listen to the first half of the Chargers/Broncos game. We ran into Morgan out in the parking lot and we listened to the first half of the Chargers game with him before we went into the Arena riding the high of a Chargers lead over the Broncos. Things kept on getting better when the Sockers jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Fury and continued to hold the lead throughout the game. The Fury pulled themselves back into the game after the half, but I am not so sure if it was the Fury climbing back or the Sockers letting up, which they have been known to do. I missed the spread, but did well on the over under.
Monterrey Flash @ Texas Strikers Monterrey -14.5 o/u 18 Final Score Flash 7 Strikers 2 WOW! I did terrible on this one. The Flash beat the Strikers bad last time, but were unable to score a lot of goals this time around.
Saltillo Rancho Seco @ Tulsa Revolution Tulsa -1 o/u 14 Final Score Rancho Seco 8 Revolution 7 I watched some of this game, the Tulsa Revolution should change their name to the Tayou Revolution since it seems to be a one man show with him on offense. This was a bad loss for Tulsa, as this was one of their best chances at getting a win all season. At least I got the over/under right.
Chicago Mustangs @ Cleveland Freeze Chicago -1.5 o/u 17 Final Score Mustangs 13 Freeze 4 I watched this game also. Ostergren was a one man show that night, singing the national anthem, scoring the first goal, taking tickets at the gate, and at one point I even saw him slinging peanuts in the crowd. Cleveland was in this game for the first half, but Chicago came out in the second half and beat the pants off of the Freeze. When the Mustang's goalie Flores floated the ball up to Vaca who headed it into the goal, that was the point when the wind left the Cleveland sails. The good thing is that I nailed the over/under.
Cleveland Freeze @ Cincinnati Saints Cincinnati -.5 o/u 15 Final Score Freeze 10 Saints 6 Cleveland recovered from their loss to the Mustangs and went on the road to claim the title of "King of Ohio" from the Cincinnati Saints. Once again I did good on the over/under.
Mexico Toros @ Sacramento Surge Mexico -3 o/u 17 Final Score Toros 7 Surge 6 Mexico picks up another win against the Surge. The Surge are terrible, and Mexico is only 2.5 games back in the Pacific division.
Chicago Mustangs @ Detroit Waza Flo Detroit -2 o/u 16 Final Score Mustangs 6 Detroit 5 I tried watching this game, but the free broadcast let me down. This is a huge win for the Mustangs, and a huge road trip for Chicago. For Chicago to go on the road and win two games against the other two top teams in the East shows that the Mustangs are contenders, and judging by their strength of schedule from here on out, they should cruise into the postseason.
Tulsa Revolution @ Wichita B-52's Wichita -1.5 o/u 15 Final Score B-52's 9 Revolution 2 Tulsa still can't get a win, but Wichita, led by the skill of Matt Clare, is only 3.5 games back in the Central division.
Saltillo Rancho Seco @ Dallas Sidekicks Dallas -5.5 o/u 17 Final Score Sidekicks 7 Rancho Seco 3 I nailed the spread on this game, but I am surprised that Dallas didn't beat them more, considering the Saltillo side played a game the night before.
San Diego Sockers @ Las Vegas Legends Las Vegas -1 o/u 14 Final Score Sockers 7 Legends 5 When I heard that Felipe Gonzalez and Ricardinho were not going to be in the lineup right before the game on Sunday, I knew that my lines were going to be off. Those two players are key elements to the Las Vegas offense, and their absence was noticeable. It was still a good game, but San Diego was in the driver's seat the whole game.
Mexico Toros @ Bay Area Rosal Mexico -1 o/u 12 Final Score Rosal 9 Toros 8 Ever since putting Jakubek in goal, the Bay Area Rosal seem to have new life breathed into their lungs. Rosal have won their three last games and are in third place in the Pacific Division.
Monterrey Flash @ Hidalgo La Fiera Monterrey -1 o/u 14 Final Score La Fiera 5 Flash 4 In the second meeting between these two teams the game once again goes into overtime, but this time the ball bounces in favor of La Fiera. This is a huge win for Hidalgo, which puts them at only a half game back from Monterrey in the Central Division.
Week #6 Results
Hidalgo @ Texas Hidalgo -8 over/under 14 Final Score Hidalgo 14 Texas 3 Yep.
Dallas @ Wichita Dallas -6 o/u 16 DNP
Sacramento @ Las Vegas Las Vegas -10 o/u 18 Final Score Las Vegas 14 Sacramento 6 Yep.
Detroit @ Illinois Detroit -3.5 o/u 15 Final Score Detroit 9 Illinois 5 Nailed the spread, and was close with the over/under, by far my best game of the week. Piasa put up the good fight that I thought they would, but Detroit is the better team, and was able to emerged victorious from battling it out at "The Field."
Detroit @ Chicago Detroit -2 o/u 1 Final Score Chicago 13 Detroit 9 A big win for the Mustangs at home against a quality Detroit Waza Flo. I can't be too critical of the Waza Flo for losing to a solid Mustangs squad after traveling and playing a game the day before. Detroit had a good comeback push towards the end of the game, but the Mustangs were able to hold them off. One thing that stood out to me was that neither team scored on a combined 8 power-play opportunities. Detroit will only play Chicago one more time in the regular season, and that is next week when Chicago travels to Detroit after playing a game the night before in Cleveland. If the Freeze can ice the Mustangs at home, and the Waza can get revenge on an exhausted Chicago side at home, then the Eastern division would be really close at the front with three teams battling for first place. On the other hand, if Chicago can get two wins on this road trip, then they would put themselves 4 games ahead of the pack, and with a fairly easy back half of the schedule, cruise into the postseason.
Week #5 Results
Cleveland @ Detroit Detroit -1 o/u 16 Final Score Detroit 8 Cleveland 7 I nailed the spread and missed the over/under by one. I should have had the O/U at 15 because the spread was an odd number, but I won't make that mistake again. I watched this game and was impressed at how the Freeze were able to bring them self back after trailing 0-4 early in the game. Detroit's offense, especially Djerisilo and Byrd, are so familiar with each other that it is difficult for defenses to slow them down. On the Cleveland side, Eller had a strong game with a goal and 3 assists. The last goal that the Waza Flo scored was beautiful. Byrd held the ball beautifully until the play could develop, his quick pass was handled perfectly by Otieno, who dumped it off to Lopes to finish it off. That could be the goal of the week
Cincinnati @ Harrisburg Harrisburg -.5 o/u 14 Final Score Harrisburg 8 Cincinnati 6 I picked Harrisburg to win giving them a -.5, and this game could have been closer if the Saints wouldn't of had a 4th quarter meltdown and allow 4 unanswered goal by the Heat. On the bright side, I nailed the over/under. So I will consider this game a success for me also. Mellor had a good game with a hat trick, but the Saints had an impressive 11 blocks as a team in this game, but only Henderson could consistently find the back of the net for the Saints.
Wichita @ Illinois Illinois -1 over/under 12 Final Score Wichita 8 Illinois 7 I did a terrible job on this one. Both teams needed a win here to breath some air into their seasons. Hopefully for Wichita this win can carry some momentum into their game against Chicago on Sunday, but for the Piasa things look worse. The Piasa have a game at home against Detroit and another one against Cleveland, and then the team that can't win on the road will make a 4 game road trip. Illinois could be 1-12 by February, when the Piasa start their last three game home stand of the season.
Turlock @ Bay Area Turlock -2 o/u 14 Final Score Bay Area 5 Turlock 2 I missed this one also, a low scoring game and an upset in the Nor Cal Triangle makes thing a little more interesting. Many people though that Turlock would be a playoff contender at the beginning of the season, but the Express seem to be a shell of what they were last year, especially after Las Vegas and Dallas plucked their best players from their bench.
Ontario @ Mexico Ontario -3.5 o/u 16 Final Score Mexico 18 Ontario 4 If you read what I said about this game when I set the lines, then you know I said that the Fury were going to have to adjust to the field and the boards, and that I said a win would not come easy. Ouch!! I also said that Ontario has too much firepower to lose, and I noticed that Tiguinho wasn't in the lineup, but that is no excuse. The Fury have enough good players on offense to score more than 4. Mexico put up twice as many shots as the Fury, and Geraldo Villa had a awesome game for the Toros with 5 goals and 3 assists. Palmerin, the ex-Socker, had 2 goals and 2 blocks for the Fury.
Wichita @ Chicago Chicago -4.5 o/u 16 Final Score Chicago 9 Wichita 5 I nailed the spread on this and missed the o/u by 2. Wichita got a good win against the Piasa, but fatigue played an issue when the B-52's gave up 6 unanswered goals in the 3rd and beginning of the 4th. Chicago is one of three unbeaten teams left in the PASL.
Week #5 Prediction Dallas wins the Central Division with a 14-2 record.
Week #4 Results
Saltillo @ Monterrey Monterrey -4 over/under 16
Final Score Monterrey 9 Saltillo 5. I nailed the spread at 4 on the first game of the week and only missed the over/under by 2, which is more than acceptable. Hopefully this is a good sign for the rest of the week for me. Monterrey now travels to Beaumont Texas to face the win-less Strikers.
San Diego @ Turlock Sockers -3 o/u 16
Final Score San Diego 6 Turlock 3 I nailed the spread, but missed the over/under by 7. The narrow goals and smaller field get crowded easily making for less goals.
Hidalgo @ Tulsa Hidalgo -4.5 o/u 15
Final Score Hidalgo 7 Tulsa 6. A good road win for La Fiera, but a solid home performance by the Revolution against a quality team. Tulsa never gave up and hung with Hidalgo the whole game. I came close on the over/under, but missed the spread completely.
San Diego @ Sacramento San Diego -5 o/u 15
Final Score San Diego 11 Sacramento 4 Nailed the over/under, but missed the spread by 2, not bad!
Hidalgo @ Wichita Hidalgo -2 o/u 14
Final Score Hidalgo 6 Wichita 5 That is two road wins for La Fiera in so many days, and they travel to Beaumont next to take on a struggling Strikers team that is win-less so far. Despite what people say about the on-field antics of La Fiera, they have the second best record in the Central Division. From here they play the the Strikers 3 times, Saltillo 3 times, Monterrey 3 times, and Dallas and Tulsa once. They could end the regular season with an 11-5 record, possibly putting them in the playoffs.
Cleveland @ Harrisburg Cleveland -1.5 o/u 14
Final Score Cleveland 10 Harrisburg 7 Hector Marinaro has himself a solid team in Cleveland, and the Freeze are only going to get better. I watched this game on my big screen with my family and friends, and we all thought Cleveland looked good. They had good shot distribution, with 9 different guys taking a crack at the goal and 7 scoring. The Freeze were also 2-4 on the power-play, and killed 2-3 penalties. The Freeze are playing a simple yet effective brand of indoor soccer, with basic set pieces and a straightforward offensive structure. If Cleveland can eliminate errors on the field and keep their fouls under control, they will be a dominate team in the East. Up next, Detroit. A true test for Cleveland against the reigning Eastern Division Champs. Oh yeah, think I did an alright job handicapping this game. I would have been a lot closer if the Heat wouldn't have melted down at the end and gave up 4 unanswered goals. I would look a lot better if the final score was 8-7.
Monterrey @ Texas Monterrey -5 o/u 15
Final Score Monterrey 13 Texas 4 I new it would be a blowout, but every time a predict a blowout score the teams keep it close. Texas better pray they can figure out a way to either beat Saltillo or Tulsa or they might go win-less this year.
Mexico @ Bay Area Bay Area - 3 o/u 16
Final Score Mexico 10 Bay Area 7 I am surprised a team with history like the Rosal would lose at home against the Toros. So far the Nor Cal Triangle teams haven't beat anyone outside of the triangle. At least I got the over/under close.
Illinois @ Cincinnati Cincinnati -4 o/u 15 Final Score Cincinnati 6 Illinois 4 I would like to thank the Cincinnati Saints for filling me in on the final score of this game. A good home win for the Saints to put them back to .500, but now they have to travel Harrisburg and try to hand them their third straight loss at home.
Las Vegas @ Ontario Las Vegas -1 o/u 13
Final Score Las Vegas 11 Ontario 10 I went to this game with my family to get a look at what the Sockers are up against this year. My conclusion, both Vegas and Ontario are quality teams that can beat the Sockers. Las Vegas has a lightning fast offense that looks to score in transition with their speedy forwards. Ontario has an offense lead by Tiguinho, who deals out the ball effectively, and Nunez, who is a natural goal scorer. I can't say that either defense or keeper stood out in a game with 21 goals, but I can say that both teams know how to find the back of the net, at least on each other. I have to say this was a fun game to watch, a close game with a lot of scoring and an overtime win. I nailed the spread on this game, which was a cause for celebration. Unfortunately, there was some unsavory behavior exhibited by some the visiting Las Vegas fans and a few Fury fans, and on the field after the game by some players and coaches from both teams. If modeling is the primary way in which children learn behavior, then we are going to have some foul mouthed, churlish, and physically aggressive indoor soccer fans in our near future.
Week #3 Lines
Las Vegas vs Wichita / Las Vegas -4 over/under 15 Final Score Las Vegas 14 Wichita 5. I picked the fact that Vegas would win, but missed the over/under by 4 and the spread by 5.
Harrisburg vs Detroit / Harrisburg -1 o/u 12.5 Final Score Harrisburg 5 Detroit 8. This is a big upset win for the Waza on the road. At least I nailed the over/under.
Illinois vs Chicago / Chicago -2.5 o/u 13 Final Score Chicago 15 Illinois 2. Once again the Piasa fail to win on the road getting blown out by the Mustangs.
Cincinnati vs Cleveland / Cleveland -1 o/u 15 Final Score Cleveland 10 Cincinnati 9. I nailed this spread, but missed the over/under by 4. The Battle for Ohio is tied at 1 a piece.
Tulsa vs Dallas / Dallas -9.5 o/u 17 Final Score Tulsa 5 Dallas 7. I totally missed this game. All I guessed was that Dallas was going to win. I can't believe The Revolution hung around with the Sidekicks.
Saltillo vs Texas / Saltillo -7.5 o/u 12 Final Score Saltillo 5 Texas 4. I picked the winner, that's it.
Monterrey vs San Diego / San Diego -1.5 o/u 14 Final Score Monterrey 6 San Diego 5. San Diego was covering the spread, until they choked up the game like some half dead mutt on a rotten chicken bone.
Monterrey vs Mexico / Monterrey -1.5 o/u 12 Final Score Monterrey 10 Mexico 6. I only picked the winner in this one. That puts Monterrey at 4-0.
Sacramento vs Ontario / Ontario -8 o/u 16 Final Score Ontario 9 Sacramento 1. I nailed the Spread on this one, but missed the over/under by 6. The Fury didn't run up the score like I thought they would.
Saltillo vs Hidalgo / Hidalgo -3 o/u 14 Final Score Hidalgo 16 Saltillo 3. Saltillo's success in the LMFR hasn't translated into the PASL as Rancho Seco gets blown out by La Fiera by 13.
Week #2 Results
In the second week of the season I only called 5 winners out of 11
games, but I did nail 2 spreads and 2 over/unders and the San Diego
ejection and Frisbee toss lines. Week two had a lot of surprises and
close games resulting in me fairing rather poorly in making the odds.
Turlock -2.5 over/under 15. The final score in this game was Turlock 6 Bay Area 4. I nailed the spread but missed the over under by 5 goals.
Turlock -2.5 over/under 15. The final score in this game was Turlock 6 Bay Area 4. I nailed the spread but missed the over under by 5 goals.
La Fiera -5.5 o/u 13.5 Final Score La Fiera 13 Texas 1. I called the blow out, but had no idea that the Strikers would be held to a single goal.
San Diego -1 o/u 11, o/u 1.5 ejections, o/u 1 person wins the Frisbee toss
Final Score Dallas 5 San Diego 3, 1 ejection, 1 Frisbee. This game
panned out how I envisioned it, without the "Sockers Magic." A scrappy
battle between both sides with a San Diego struggling to knock off the
rust from the off season. I plan on writing a more thouroug recap of
the game in the future.
Monterrey -3.5 o/u 15
Final Score Monterrey 9 Rancho Seco 6. This is the the only game of
the week where I nailed both the spread and the over/under.
Illinois-2.5 o/u 14
Final Score Wichita 9 Illinois 8. The Piasa start out the season with
the same road demons of last year, but it is a good win for the B-52's
at home.
Detroit -2.5 o/u 12 Final Score Harrisburg 8 Detroit 7 OT. A close loss for Detroit in their home opener, but the effects of the game carried over for the Heat.
Chicago -2 o/u 15
Final Score Chicago 7 Cincinnati 6. I was close on both the spread and
o/u, but Chicago again proves they are Eastern Division elite
Sacramento -1 o/u 13 Final Score Bay Area 12 Sacramento 5. Sacramento is hurting, they are now 0-3 in the first 7 days of play.
Harrisburg -2 o/u 14 Final Score Clevland 11 Harrisburg 3. I figured that travel and fatigue would play a role in the game, but I never imagined a 11-3 beat down by the Freeze.
Las Vegas -3 o/u 14.5 Final Score Las Vegas 7 Mexico 3. I was close on the spread, but missed the o/u by 3.5.
Dallas -2 o/u 12.5
Final Score Ontario Fury 6 Dallas 5. Ontario picked up a huge win in
their home opener against Dallas and proved that they are indeed are a
force in the Pacific Division.
Week #1 Results
For the very first week in the 2013-2014 PASL season I picked all of the winners and had a good week in setting the odds, beginning with the Illinois Piasa vs Tulsa Revolution game. I had Piasa -3 o/u 13.5, and the final was Piasa 7 Tulsa 4. I nailed the spread on the first game of the season, which I will take as a promising sign, and missed the over/under by 2.5. I actually watched this game on the internet and observed a few things. For one, the Piasa home field has smaller goals making for lower scoring games. Another thing is that Tulsa looks like they are going to have a long season learning the ins and outs of the indoor game.
In the Cincinnati Saints vs Cleveland Freeze game I had the Saints -4.5 o/u 15, and the final score was Cincinnati 8 Cleveland 7. I nailed the over/under at 15, but Cleveland kept it closer than I thought, which leads me to think that their might be a good rivalry developing in the Buckeye state. I wonder how the Saints will perform without the backing of the rawkus Seven Hills Crusaders.
In the Legends vs Rosal game I had Las Vegas -1.5 o/u 13, and the final was Las Vegas 12 Bay Area 7. This was one of my worse picks of the week. I picked the winner in this chippy game that had it's heated moments, but totally missed the spread and the over/under.
In the Chicago vs Tulsa game I had Chicago -5 o/u 17, and the final score was Mustangs 10 Revolution 5. I nailed the spread at -5 and missed the o/u by two, this was one of my better games. I even called the two losses by Tulsa.
In the Dallas vs Wichita game I had Dallas -5.5 o/u 16, and the final score was Dallas 15 Wichita 3. I predicted the blowout, and missed the over/under by 2. I am pleased with these lines.
In the Turlock vs Sacramento game I had Turlock -3 o/u 16, and the final score was Turlock 10 Sac 7. I called the -3 for Turlock and missed the over/under by one.
I called the close defensive battle in the Monterrey vs La Fiera game. I had the Flash at -2 o/u 11, and the final score was Monterrey 6 La Fiera 5. I missed the spread by 1 and nailed the over/under at 11. This was probably my best game of the week. Me gustaria decir felicitaciones al Flash de Monterrey para obtener un nuevo record de asistencia en el PASL.
In the Las Vegas vs Sacramento game I had Las Vegas at -3.5 o/u 11.5, and the final score was Las Vegas 14 Sacramento 6. I thought there might be an upset in this game, but I really only picked a winner in this game and missed the numbers considerably, both Vegas games were my worse games of the week.
So all in all, I ended up nailing 3 of the spreads and 2 of the over/unders, but missed the boat on both Legends games. I am pleased in my first week of handicapping the PASL and expect to improve as the season progresses.
Classic once again. Turf, 2 goals, lines
